Question For Kelly's Cue Billet Users

If you're using plain wood strips what is your work flow? Do you cut the strips then the grooves to fit or the other way around? How do you work the wood so the strips are perfect width? Obviously if you are using glued up laminate strips you have to cut the slots last but what about plain wood?

I have watched Bob Dzuricky's videos but wonder how others are doing it with the tooling they have available. For instance I don't have any accurate method of cutting wood to thin dimensions.

Hope my questions make sense.

I use a bench top Pantograph.
It's a pain in the ass and usually a lot of work.
But....
Better than nothing.
 
If it's a stacked veener strip. I allready know what size the final will be. It's easy in CueBillet to add say an extra thou if the fit is very tight.
A drum sander is also a great tool to have if you need to even out boards before you cut them into strips.

Can you recommend the right sander for working with small pieces of wood?
 
I’ve watched several of his videos in the past.
Routinely make strips of wood by various methods.
Routinely thickness them by various methods.
DK what a Kelly’s billet cue is?
Still DK what the subject is but never mind, I do tend to be a little slow & will do some searching this evening.

Just taking a break at moment from digging & masonary for pier & lintels to set steel to hold up floors for wife’s 1926 BBC resto/& room build. Gotta think something pool related to keep me going.

if you don't have a CNC,,,, you cut the slots with some standard slot cutter and then make the strips the correct size to fit.............. If you have a CNC you make the strips first and them measure them and have the CNC cut the right size slots.....

Got it.
(Sounded like it was a material option)

Still in pantograph, pin router, pattern mill dark ages here.
