Hi there. I play primarily on bar boxes with regulation cue balls. Do you have any tips that could help?

rotation is definately a good one for the bar table. improves the barbox game a lot due to the amount of traffic and clustering...

One more question for Shane

Are you using the OB-1 shaft? If not, what are you using, and how do the different shafts affect your game?

Have you found over time that certain shafts just don't perform as well? Or, is it all about feel?

Thanks and best wishes!

Right now Im using a regular joss cue shaft from back wen I was 9 years old... danny janes?? he sent to me for nothing when I was about 9 and I been using the same cue for 14 years.....He knew that Ill play like a champion... In my opinion, I think using the same cue that you been using for along time makes you play better and switching shafts makes your game worse..........feel free to ask anymore questions..... thanks;)

There is no game-specific shaft. Anyone that tells you that is merely trying to make a buck off you or was brain-washed by someone who was. There isn't a single good player out there who switches cues when they switch games.

I think he meant 'game' as in 'his ability to play pool', not 'game' as in 8-ball, 9-ball, etc. :P

The original post is about playing on a barbox and someone brought up using a specific shaft. That would lead me to believe they feel this particular shaft (OB-1) would be better suited for barbox play which simply is untrue.

Shane -

Remember about two years ago when you and Big Joe got double-dipped in that scotch doubles tournament in Fargo ? [ ;) ].

You were playing with a Kikel then. I hit a few balls with it and thought it hit really good. Have you retired it? sold it? What did you think of the way it plays?

Well, I don't have any particular tips, but let's see what the current U.S. Open title holder says, shall we?

for the record i think bar table pool is a joke.think about this ,if you had a league player that had to run a rack of 9ball with ball in hand ,and your life depended on him getting out or your dead, trust me your going to put him on that little joke, toy, piece of shit, ego helping ,non skill required thing we call a bar table.

Hmm... I think John believes you should move up to a 9 footer. He's the U.S. Open champ, so he knows what's right!

Good luck on the 9 footers, buddy!

Russ, SVB plays plenty good on the big tables and I'm sure you'll see his name alot more...If you've been paying attention at all you would have seen it plenty already...Good shooting Shane!............Marc

Note: It wasn't ME saying anything about bar tables. I happen to like bar tables... And the response was to ledrums, not SVB.

Russ, John is entitled to his opinion, just as you are. You think bar boxes are great... good for you. John doesn't... good for him. I don't see any reason to continually knock him (this isn't the 1st time you've referenced this) because he doesn't like or think highly about bar boxes.

Honestly, I think John is right. I used to play everyday on a 9 ft table for yrs. I took 8 yrs off from playing and when I get on a 9 ft table I can hardly make 2 balls in a row anymore. However, I still hold my own pretty darn well on a bar box. Plain & simple, a bar box is easier in the sense that the object ball doesn't have to travel as far and the pockets are bigger so there's more room for error.

9 ball on a bar box IS a joke. 8 ball gets a tad tougher and 15 ball rotation is very tough simply due to the clusters because of the size of the table.

Think about it... there's a reason pro tournaments are played on 9 ft tables and not bar boxes.

John simply has a different opinion about them than you do, no need to continually criticize him for it.

FWIW, I watched Shane play Scott Frost on the bar box at the US Open and it was damn impressive. The reason it was impressive was because there were times when the balls were clustered to the point it didn't appear that he would get out. His ability to move around the clusters, break them out, and jump balls on the bar box is what made it a joy to watch. Had they been playing 9 ball, it would've been a snooze fest.

What are you talking about? I didn't "knock" or "criticize" anyone.

I simply relayed the opinion of the current U.S. Open Champion on barboxes. I made no negative comment on his opinion, did I?

Perhaps you are thinking John may not have picked the right wording in expressing his opinion? Ida know.. Not for me to say.

So the part that I put in bold print above wasn't dripping with sarcasm and meant to be a jab at John?

I didn't express anything about John's wording. The fact that you brought it up leads me to believe that you do and it's either his choice of words or his opinion of the bar boxes that you do not like. Regardless of which one it is, it's not the 1st time you've brought this up. Your reactions to this come across as jabs at John because you do not agree with him.

Well, I really do think it is all in your interpetation, Timberly. :D

If those words were meant to be sarcastic, then I might be labeled a troll.

But I am not the one being combative, here. ;)

Russ

I'm not hi-jacking this thread anymore.

Shane, I thinks it's great that you're willing to come on here and answer questions. You're a great player and a high profile player... not many in that catagory stop and post. Some have tried but have been disgusted and discouraged by idiots being rude to them in the past. I hope people continue to treat you with respect on here and take advatnge of your willingness to answer their questions.

Thanks for being a nice guy. ;)

help on bar box

I tought my granson when was 5yr to rack 3 ball break take q in hand and try to run in order, when he could do this i had him to add a ball etc.ect, until he got pretty good , he beat mike segial in a charity game one nite at murphy brass rail in athens ga, somthing he will never forget, made a grandpop proud!!!!!! STICK:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I actually agree that a person who plays on 9 footers can adapt to a bar box better than the other way around, but I also believe a good bar box player could eventually adapt his/her game to a bigger table given time. I believe that if your good, your good. So I agree with you AND John.
