question for those playing 30+ hours/week

I play at least 35 hours of pool a week unless i go out of town for a weekend.
So my question is, is there many people like me who are giving the time and effort to become professional caliber on a serious note.

i am not sure about wanting to become a pro but i would like to reach a good shortstop maybe better speed. the problem is at almost 40 years old things get in the way. i play in leagues 4 nights a week. i get there early and leave late usually playing 4-7 hours, and that takes account for the fact i am not on a table the whole time i am there. i have a few pool halls that offer free pool with luch and i try to take advantage of that on non league days for sure and sometimes even on a league day and that's about 4 hours. i try to play in at least one tournament a week which is about another 3-8 hours of actual table time. and last but not least, i have been getting into small action, 20-40 sets. so on a perfect week i can hit or exceed 30 hours. the problem is that i am part owner of a family business, i have a girlfriend, she has kids, the bills have to get paid, people need attention, so perfect weeks are not always what i get. if turning pro offered more of a financial possibilty i might try to make 30 hours weeks the exception and 40 to 50 hour weeks the norm. but the cost of travel vs. what you may earn is bleek in contrast. i have been playing seriously for about two years and really started to put maximum time in about 9 months ago, and i am about at a high "c" level, on a good day i have seen "b" speed. i just don't think the reward is there for me to try and really devote myself.

Like another person posted, I actually scaled back and got better. In 2008 I was some where around 30-40 hours of pool, but it was unfocused with no real path or goal. In 2009 I'm down to around 20 hours, but more focused. I've reached out to get help/training and focused hard on the local tournament scene. I don't strive to be a pro, but I would like to bring another APA Singles National Championship back to the area I play in and obtain the 'Grand Master' title in BCA.

They might be far fetched goals, but hey gotta start somewhere. The good news i'm 25 years old and married a pool player.

nope...... i don't know how good you got it but table time is 5 bones an hour here

i don't have 150 a week extra to throw at my game. i play 5-9 hours every weekend saturday and sunday

I work at a pool hall, so I get free table time, plus my boss who's an ex-snooker pro, helps me out alot, hes a great coach and im grateful to have him fine tuning my game.

Just for curiosity's sake, is that 30+ hours of play spent in drills, ball banging, gambling or all of the above?
drills, playing sets, playing the ghost, shooting racks. All of it while concentrating, if I find myself slacking off and starting to bang balls, i leave the table, go eat, or maybe go home.

I used to play at least 5 hours a day during the week then tournies on the weekends. Then I got deployed. I cam back and picked up the routine again then got deployed again. Then move out here Sierra Vista, AZ where the next pool hall is 70 miles away. So no real practice for about 6 months. Getting my new table next month and will deffinatly be working hard at my game. I want to be the first pro other than Donnie Mills, that still has a day job and a degree.
