I recently got an older green logo Mali cue. Beautiful wood in the cue and I love the look of it, but the thing is a beast. 21 oz with the stock shaft (4.3 oz for the shaft!) So being the inquisitive fellow I am, I popped the bumper off and saw a philips head bolt - so naturally I started removing it, to see how much weight it might take out of the cue.
I now have this thing out of the cue almost the length of a sharpie marker, with no hint of threads showing yet.
Obviously total removal will remove too much weight from the cue (I'm looking to remove about 2 oz), but if I totally remove this bolt will the cue separate into it's component parts? It really sounds like I am unscrewing from the middle of the handle at this point. Nothing seems loose yet, and while I have wasted $25 in much more spectacular ways, I kinda don't want to completely ruin this one, as I like the look enough to re-finish it at some point in the future.
Does anyone have any experience with this? My questions are - will removing the bolt cause the cue to come apart, and if not, will there be enough thread at the end to remove 2 oz and still get it to screw back in the cue?
Thanks
