Question for youse guys.

I actually tried this once in a "friendly" game. Not sure it gave me an advantage, cause hell, who practices that? But my opponent was playing "tic tac" pu$$y pool, I thought he deserved a "two can play that game" response.

I practice it, but I use a jump cue. A delicate shot just to roll the cueball in behind my object ball. I think it's a good shot to have in your bag; you never know when it will come up and matter.

Without getting into an epic post like the Iliad, and skipping the when, where and how it happened.

Would you say that unscrewing your cue and just using the shaft to hit a frozen ball at a 45 degree angle would be A OK?

I realize that sometimes being up against a wall and using a short cue is completely fine.

It was just a friendly game after league last night against a buddy. I had no problem with him doing it and it isn't a post to complain.

As we sat there, we were wondering, as in Las Vegas and other Tourneys, that they have
minimum, maximum tip sizes and rules for playing cues.

If I remember, at one time before the advent of actual jump cues, it was common for a player to just use his shaft to jump a ball.

I told him that I would make a post on AZ abd get some valid opinions on it.

Up till a year or so ago, we did have the odd one or two players that may have had a problem with him doing so.

I mean, the one guy called a team mate because he did a Masse shot the cue ball left the table. So I am sure that this guy would have questioned the use of just a shaft for a shot.

Thanks for your opinions on this. I am playing on my Buds team tonight so if I get any feed back before I leave, I will let him know what the general consensus is.

You can't shoot with just a shaft. But, if the players involve don't care, and it's done with the reason that you can't shoot with a normal cue due to obstruction as opposed to making a shot easier (like jumping with only the shaft), if I was the ref and had to make a ruling, I'd allow the exception to the rule. I've shot with a jump cue at times in the case where a pole was in the way.

If someone tried shooting with just a shaft and the other player was opposed to it, even if the full cue could not fit in the space, the ruling would be "tough, use your full cue and raise the butt".
