Question on a Paul Mottey j/b

I have a buddy that has a Mottey sneaky style j/b for sale. The cue has a maple? butterfly in the butt section, black ring at the jump joint and has a white (not ivory) joint. The shaft collar and just below the joint have black collars and silver rings like a schon. 1 shaft. I think it is signed Mottey '94.The cue has some players dings and would need to be refinished to be considered nice.

What would be a reasonable price to pay? Any responses would be appreciated.

If no points, probably in the neighborhood of $450-600 considering it would need to be refinished. A converted house cue like a sneaky as a j/b about the same, points with veneers would kick it up a notch to about $800 in the condition you are asking, considering no fancy rings, 1 shaft, etc. It is tough to say without pics. That may really be desirable to some players and could go higher.

Hard to tell without looking at the picture. Some of these cues can also be used as a playing cue and that could increase your asking price.

Sneaky Pete style, I say may be around $500 but depends on the condition.

The cue is a great player. I used to own the cue (7 yrs ago) and regret selling it. I know prices have appreciate for Motteys in the last 6-7 yrs and just wanted to know what a market value might be. Other than the fancy rings at the joint and the butterfly it is a 4 pt house cue style blank.

I have offered 425.00 and he wants 500.00, and this is the same guy that bought it from me yrs ago for 300.00. Damn inflation.

Now that you have stated that it was basically a converted house cue, it would appear to be worth a little less, but the butterfly is probably from a coverted Dufferin that many other cuemakers have done as well. These are pretty nice. I think your offer might be right, the $500 is not that bad either. Maybe I'd offer to meet him somewhere in the middle and hope to get it near $450.
