Most pros stay away from this place like it's diseased. Why is that? It's not easy making a living playing pool. In fact it's such a bad decision that even though I love the game and it's given me a lifetime of enjoyment if my 9 year old son told me that he wants to go pro...we would be having a ugly discussion. It's frankly a poor road to go down. Your better of being blacksmith (horseshoe replacing kind).
Then you come on here and some bar box rail banger tells you..you suck. Or you dogged that tourney. Or such and such is way better. Or you are not an adult because you don't make enough money to feed your family. Or your nose is big. Whatever the issue it's just not civil and people move on. The ones that stay are either gluttons for punishment or are trying to sell something.
Think of the long list of Pro's who once upon a time frequented here. Now make a list of the ones who are still here. Second list is awfully short.
As a side note. In my travels I get around and meet some of these forum rats. Almost to a man they can't run 5 balls. One day I should make a list a put it on here.
You think Jennifer is slow. Great. Enjoy the view. I can think of a worse thing to watch.

Somehow you think I'm upset at all this, but you're the one who keeps bringing me and my posts up, and you didn't even get my post. You seem to good with Nick's post, yet I said the same sentiment.Between Nick's post and JC, I am going to do my best to refrain from making comments about the pros in the future.

I am friends with two very good players. One is a former pro and the other is a former world champion. Both know of this place, but neither post here.
BTW, ferriers do quite well for themselves.

The people who came on here and contributed to the forum have generally gotten respect from most posters. There will always be the occational bad apple, but it's rather unfair to generalize this to the whole forum. Brumback is an example of a person who has gotten mostly respect. Danny Harriman is still here, posting, to name another example.Most of the short-time posters only came on here to sell something or to ask for something. It's a pretty rough crowd when you come on here asking for something in your very first post. After they got it (or not), they vanished. CJ was treated extremely badly here, I must admit, but even he got what he wanted out of the place, to sell videos.
The female pros do have a legitimate gripe with this place. Every time a female player is mentioned, there are 50 people lining up to run her into the ground with stupid, unfair criticisms. It's a pathetic spectacle, to say the least. I will say, though, that there is a small part of the forum doing the majority of the damage. Some of which are bound to be multiple accounts from long time trolls.
I would say it's pretty unfair for people to call the whole forum "toxic" or whatever derogatory term is popular at that particular moment. It's also pretty unfair to claim that nobody can play on this forum. Most of the regular members on here are pretty decent people, who go out of their way to help and encourage fellow posters. Some can play a bit too.
Pretty sure I ran 5 balls at least once.

One of the things I love most about pool discussion boards, going back to RSB, is to hear about and discuss how players from divergent backgrounds find their way up the mountain that is playing pool. Players with backgrounds from carpentry, to plumbing, to academia, the military, students, medicine, cops and robbers, and engineers all bring their unique perspective to the discussion and that is great. Because it’s the guys that have done something other than pool their entire lives that I can identify with.
One of the things I always find most rewarding is when I can describe my own travails and someone will post in return something like: you know, that really resonated with me or, that really rang true to me.
I like having pros around as much as the next guy. But what I have observed over the years is that most often the pro does not know how he does what he does, anymore than prodigies or naturals know what they do at any other sport. And so, you end up with guys trying to describe and explain how to play pool and often (usually), those explanation don’t resonate or are based in faulty logic, or can even be proven to be flat out wrong.
For me I’d rather read what Neil, or Sean, or Bob, or Dr. Dave, or PJ, or any number of other guys, who bring a wealth of varied experience, knowledge and intelligent discussion to the table, rather than hear from a pro who will not tolerate questioning, while fans wring their hands wailing, “Oh please don’t harass him -- you’ll drive him away.”
And what is that “harassment?” Here, it has been polite questioning and the proffering of divergent opinions and scientific explanations. The response has often been bumper sticker logic, fortune cookie insights, and to those of you that like that stuff I say: mazel tov.
But many of us like a little more substance than that. So wail away if you must. But please remember: people can and should disagree here -- it’s a *discussion forum* and as long as it’s polite, all points of view should be welcome.
