Question on Kamui Black Soft tip

My local pool hall owner put a Kamui Black Soft tip on my cue. I like soft tips and usually use Moori soft.

My problem is the Kamui flattens out and I usually give it a quick hit with my shaping tool, to get it back to somewhere between a nickel and dime shape each time I play. I have done this a couple times after installing a Moori and then it is good to go for a long time. But with the Kamui, I do it almost each time I play.

I like how the Kamui tip plays, but it seems to flatten out after 5-8 hours of play time.

Is this normal? Should I just go back to Moori soft?

I found the same thing that your having trouble with. When using a normal shaping tool the tip returns to good shape and I love the way they feel on my Gus cue. Along with using the shape tool on the tip, I found that they were going away to fast ,,,or wearing away too fast.
Got to add this though, once I bought their shaping tool, the tip works better and the tip holds it's shape as good as any I have ever used. If your using their shaping tool, I can't say what is going on,,,but with their shaper--as good a tip ever on my cue--and that includes to old French Champions from the mid 70's...

Funny thing you mentioned the old French Champions, I got a bunch of them when I bought my last Gus cue.

He said most of the ones today are crap and even the ones being sold as the original ones are crappy too.

I have a Kamui Soft Black on a Players HXTE10. I average about 2 hours playing per day.

In 14 months I think I've shaped it 3 times, using a 4EverTool. It hasn't flattened out much because it comes back to "round" with minimal swiping of the tool. I use the same tool to scuff it every 3 weeks or so.

But since I received an Amazon gift card, I'm thinking about getting the Kamui Gator Grip tool. It looks much less abrasive than the 4EverTool.

I use Kamui black SS and have so for a couple of years.

And, I just installed a new one. I like my tips low, so I cut a new one in half and install a half, (like maybe two layers on the sides, the rest curvature). In the first week of play I had to run it through the Williards three times to trim off the spread and now it's fine.

If you are using a tool that just squeezes the tip on the sides, that's no good -- you need to be razoring the excess off.
