Question on mcdermott joints.

Ok so I'm lookin at a mcd warden w/ g core shaft. Now, from what I can tell, it looks like the receiving threads in the shaft are just wood, no insert. My question is, are mcds like this, and if I choose this one, would it be hard to keep the threads from being damaged, and what special care would be needed to prevent this? Thanks again

McDermott uses a 3/8x10 joint pin, it has a very large thread. It would be difficult to cross thread and damage it. Just lightly thread the 1st couple turns to be sure it is threading properly before using any intentional force. Also, for wood/wood joints with a metal joint pin threading into a wood shaft, it helps if you pick up some Burt's Bee's Wax lip balm. Use a little sparingly once in a while on the joint pin and thread the shaft on and off a few times. It is considered general maintenance for large joint pin and wood threaded shafts.

Ok, I get it now. If it were finer like the viking size, it would be much more fragile, right? What are the i shafts, painted wood, or plastic threaded?

its just color coded as far as I know. You should not have any kind of problem with the joint. They have been making cues like that for decades.

Ya, I figured that if they've been around for so long, it can't be a problem. Plus, with lifetime maintenance and a lifetime warranty, what's to worry about? Thanks for your guys' help, now I know for sure that's the cue I'll choose.

So would it be a wise idea to invest a few bucks in a set of joint protectors?

Joint protectors never hurt, but they mainly keep mositure off the end grain of the shaft and the joint end of the butt. If some how you do damage the threads they can be repaired very easy, in fact it takes me no more than 3 hour's which includes the drying time of the Epoxy to drill out a shaft and put in a new core and then Tap it.

Take care

Well, I got my cue today, my dad gave it to me early cuz my uncle (super good pool player) was over and he knew I'd wanna play pool. The stick is awesome, love everything about it. I can't wait till tomorrow, goin over another uncle's house (also a good pool player), and goin over the other uncle's house. Can't wait to shoot with it tomorrow!!!!!!!
