For you pros,,I mentioned once about replacing the plastic "brunswick" plate on a GCI with a metal one.My mech. either forgot to switch them when he was redoing the rails or didn't want to do it.Question is can the plastic one be removed without damaging the laminate?Also can the metal one be altered (by cutting off the screw thingies)and glued in the cavity with super glue,gorilla glue or hot glue gun??I am assuming the routed pocket is exactly the same size.

Make sure they are the correct size first. The formica is very strong. I would try a small screwdriver around the edges first, if this does not do it ,drill a couple holes in the middle of the plate then pry out.

The new plate will have the two extrusions that the screws go into. You
could cut them off, but i would just drill two holes for them to slip into.
those plates are normall a pretty good fit so i think a drop of hot glue
would be more then adequate.

Is a thought for removing the plastic one.What do you think?Would it hurt the laminate if I put most of the heat on the center of the emblem?

just use a hair dryer set on hot and give it a try. It would take a good bit of heat to damage that formica.
 
I have a GC 1 dated 1963 that has the metal Brunswick Badging on the head rail. Is it common that some GC 1's have a plastic plate and others have the metal one?
 
I have worked on Gold Crowns that have plastic most have the metal. Alot of the one with plastic are missing because they come loose. I think the plastic is from the early GC 1's. I am working on a set of rails now that have the plastic and it fell out when I was working on them. They are GC 1 rails.

I think thats right this is the second one i've owned.One had metal this one has plastic.I figure they found out early the plastic wouldn't last
