Questionable Ebay Auction

Two years ago he said he had recently sold set #526, and now here he is selling it again. One explanation is that he bought it back from the person he sold it to (maybe they came into hard times, etc), and is now reselling it. Or it could have passed through several hands before he came across it somehow and repurchased it. This may not be likely, but it is a possible explanation.

Or maybe the deal from two years ago fell through. Maybe the seller didn't end up paying, or received the cues and weren't happy for some reason and returned them and got a refund, but at the time of that listing the seller didn't yet know the buyer was going to be a no-pay, or was going to be sending them back for a refund. Again, may not be likely, but it is a possible explanation.

Another explanation would be making fake certificates of authenticity and selling multiple sets as "set #526". It is up to you to determine what is the most likely scenario and the amount of risk you are comfortable taking here. Like you, I would personally be worried. Maybe if you contact the seller for an explanation he has one (and the corresponding proof to back it up) that would satisfy you.

$250 per cue does not seem unreasonable at all.... couple of the cues are kinda cool looking.

I believe that cue set was made by Adam.

As far as him selling it twice, idk. I would contact eBay or contact the seller directly with your concerns.

This I know, these cues were NOT made by the original Adams Cue Company (Helmstetter, Forman, Miki), they were made by or for Competition Sports (Don Spetkar). I also know that Spetkar imported cues from Japan (high quality) and China (low quality). However, I cannot find any info about these cues to determine where they were made. If they were made in China, they are most likely a private label made by Kao Kao, and worth about $80/cue at the very most! If they were made in Japan, they would be worth much more. In fact, they would be worth at least as much as the Balabushka series of cues. Frankly, if 526 sets of these cues were made and sold...why is it no one knows anything about them?

Beats me, but there are a few threads on AzB about the Adam made Mosconi set.

Why you should never buy a cue made in China.
China tops the world in illegal wood trading* Timber thieves are stealing wood from the Russian Far East, processing it in*China and then shipping it to North America to sell,
On May 22, 2008, the U.S. Congress approved a new amendment to the Lacey Act, making the policy capable of combating both wildlife crime and illegal logging.
Gibson Guitars has finally faced the music. After nearly a year of crying foul, running to the Tea Party for political backing, seeking audience with every possible media outlet and hiring a DC lobbying firm to change the law under which it was being investigated, Gibson Guitars has acknowledged that it did, in fact, import illegal wood in violation of the Lacey Act.

Yeah, gotta be why they are so cheap. Why not even mention the name Adam Cues in the Ebay ad ?? I just sent him a question to see if he bothers to mention where the cues were made.... I'm betting he does not answer.

Well, that was fast. Here is the answer from the seller when I asked if cues made by Adams or some other company.

"Thats a tough question I believe the right answer is they are Adam's cues made by competition sport's. ...the reason I say that is competition sports was the only licensed maker of Adam's cues when they were contracted to be made more then 10 years ago"

So, the question I have are they the same "collector hall of fame" set that Billiards Warehouse sold in the past... and does this officially make them "cheap" Chinese cues that are basically worthless ??

After talking with Don Spetkar this morning and learning the cues ARE legit (made in Japan) I bought the set! Yes, they are one of the same sets that were sold by Billiards Warehouse. Thank you everyone for your input!
