Questions about break cues

I'm interested in getting some opinions on what kind of break cue people prefer. I'm in the market for a new one. I'm stuck with a fury jump/break. Thanks in advance.

Nothing wrong with the Fury j/b except the 1 piece phenolic tip. I have 2 shafts for my Fury. One has a canvas resin ferrule/tip (ala Varney)..the other shaft has a flattened phenolic ferrule and a white diamond tip. Both are good tips and really improve the fury to be as good as a more expensive j/b. In my opinion!

There are several polls and threads about this. You could search "J/B", "Break", "jump break" etc to see many of them. If you're looking for a dedicated break cue, the predator BK series seems to be quite popular.

You'll find many cues in a large range of prices. Most are very good products and will perform very well for you. I've tried some I liked and some I didn't. So I don't sound like I am hyping anything, I'll just say I am pleased with the one I have now & won't likely change.

Good luck in your search.

IMHO, all you need is a lower level (price wise) break cue with a phenolic tip. To spend hundreds of dollars on a break cue doesn't make sense to me.

Whats wrong with the Fury? I m thinking of getting one!

I own a predator bk2, and its awesome, but to be honest, i would be just as happy with a J&J. Its a matter of individual preference, and if you have the money, by all means i reccomend the bk2. Very solid hit, and a good tip.

I bought a $29 jump break cue off ebay and put a $30 g10 ferrule on it. I get a lot of compliments about how well it breaks and jumps.

I don't think they are made very well. I've had one for a year now and had to send it back to the manufacturer 3 times now for a broken ferrule the first time, a bad joint the second and a loose ferrule the third. I have friends that used to break with them and couldn't stand the problems with the ferrules and the pain of having to deal with the manufacturer. But if you are interested I will be getting a brand new shaft for my fury jump break and will be selling it soon. If you want first dibs on it, its all yours just PM me.

Try using your playing cue to break a few times and see how it goes for you.... There was also a debate on here about that, my opinion was breaking with your player would only help your break by keeping the same feel in your head....

I agree with this except that I use a softer tip so it will mushroom easily. Otherwise I would try that out. Thanks for the tip though.

One benefit of a Predator BK is that you have an extra Predator shaft lying around that you can use to play with. If you get used to playing with a Predator and don't want to have to switch back, that's helpful.

This is entirely passable. I had the first version of their break jump with the piloted shaft pin and no pilot on the other pin and liked that one until I split the ferrule in half breaking. I sent the cue in to have it replaced and they ended up loosing my cue altogether. They were nice enough to send me a completely new cue as a replacement but it took about a month. The new one lasted about 3 weeks before I started having problems with it. Knowing my luck, I did get a defective one.:( Thats ok though. Like I said earlier, I will be selling mine soon so watch for it if your interested!

The ultimate break cue setup is a BK2 with two shafts. One the factory phenolic and the other a Tiger Hard leather tip that many suppliers can have done for you for about an extra $30.

Not the cheapest package at around $550 online, but an absolutely sweet setup. :D

i'd echo the above. you got an evenings worth of reading right there.

but if you do find a later version of the x-breaker for sale, you'd be looking at some pretty good sheit.

I use one as my player ... don't need a big case hauling around spent money I could do something else with ... Uncork when I need to jump ... they can be made to play as good as anything... No need for another cue ... the shaft is everything ...

I really like my Jerico stinger. They are listed for sale on here now and again. Quality workmanship, and a great hit.
