When I tried to install this program so I could access the wei table it wanted to install something called registry mechanic on my computer.

Is that a safe program?

Sounds like third party adware. Shockwave is all you need. Best to get it from the Adobe website, so to avoid the ad/scamware fluff.

NO. Don't ever install any of that extra crap they try to sneak by you when you install other things. Even Adobe is doing that. Most popular is the stupid toolbars. They always default the box to be checked to install crap hoping you just hit Next.

Always go slow when installing so you can catch that crap or choose a manual install so you're sure you catch it.

It never fails whenever I work on someones pc, they always have 3 or 4 toolbars installed. hehe... they will have only 1/2 screen for their web browser because the other half is toolbars at the top. lol.

What Cali said :)

Well said by these gents. As Cali said watch carefully when installing/updating. Recently they have got more sophisticated trying to get you to install the garbage and the tool bars are not the only things to look for. When I fix peoples slow computers you wouldn't believe the Krap in the start menu. Disabling things from start and deleting Krap will make that old XP unit run a lot faster

Well, I unchecked the box to install registry mechanic, thought I was installing only shockwave, and it somehow installed anyway. I uninstalled it and can't find it on my computer. Does that mean it's gone or could it still be lurking?

I'm surprised my Norton didn't block it.

Don't know how it would of installed itself if you unchecked it, but if you uninstalled it, you should be fine. Just remember if you ever have a choice to uninstall from the icons that the program creates in your start menu, use their uninstall shortcut rather then use Windows add/remove programs.

Sent from my mobile so this will be short and sweet
