Quick Fix for Willard Tip Shaper

I bought a Willard cue tip shaper yesterday. It was a real pain in the ass trying to hold it down with my feet, because it's so small for my feet and its concaved so the bottom of it doesn't lay flat.

Instead of getting my 2lb sledge like I normally would do, I cut a 2"x ½" board to 6" long. Drilled a ¾" hole in the board for the dome part to sit in and screwed it down using the key chain hole and the cut out side that is opposite the key chain hole. Put it on the floor and it works great. Johnnyt

Ever think of just holding tool in one hand and twisting the cue with the other hand.:scratchhead::idea2::slap::ok:
 
I just put the willard down and keep it even with both of my feets on each side,I put the tip in with the hole cue assembled, so I can do it standing, it works every time.

Wow, that works good...LMAO. In my defense I've only saw it used at the poolroom once and the guy put it on the floor and held it with his feet.

I have way too much time on my hands since retirement. Boy did I ever over think that one. Did I get out of this? Johnnyt

I've done it both ways and the advantages of using it tip down are that you can be sure you have it level and it is much easier to regulate pressure.

The Ultimate Tip Tool is flat!
 
Putting a shaper on the floor probably means you're doing way too much shaping.

The only time I've ever had to do that was with a new flat tip, to get the initial curvature. After that it's just a few seconds of hand-shaping every few times I play to round off the edges a little.

um, human lathe anyone?

have the shaft (or cue) laying across your lap. roll it up and down smoothly with several revolutions with your hand, and the other one with the tip shaper held against the tip. as you move the shaft towards you, keep the tip shaper moving towards you, so it really does work like a lathe.

Whew, that is funny. Thanks for a good laugh to start the day. I think we all have brain farts like that every now and then. Who knows, maybe you'll start a trend? It sounds like you have a one of a kind tip shaper now.
 
i use mine on the floor also held by my feet, i keep taking off until all the chalk is gone except for a dot at the very tip. if you keep up with it, you wont have to take much off. i can never keep it even when using it by hand. my vote goes to the floor and im digging the original posters idea.
