I am very to saddened to hear the news that my good friend and fellow pool player Bobby Sampson has passed away.

I have a very fond memory of Bobby in a story I would like to share.

When I was new to the game I would play in a weekly 9 Ball A,B,C,D Tourney in the former Leisure Time Billiards in Levittown NY. I would typically have to play Bobby who was an A to Open level player in my first round and he would spot me the world I would never win week after week. He would always come up to me, pat me on the back and say "nice try kid".

Some time had passed and I started playing only Open Events such as the Tri-State Tour, and the Joss Tour and everyone would ask me why I was doing that if I didn't have a chance in heck of winning. What I was looking to do is gain in experience, or seasoning as they call it.

After some time of getting beat up in those events I returned back to the weekly 9 Ball event and who did I have to play in the 1st Round ?, Bobby Sampson. This time I actually had to spot him, and I very gracefully walked right through him.

And what did I do after?, I walked up to him patted him on the back and said "nice try kid".

After that we grew to be good friends, I guess he saw my passion for learning the game.

May you Rest In Peace our friend Bobby Sampson. Your presence around the Long Island pool rooms will certainly be missed.

As soon as I find out the details, I will post up the info I receive.
