My Uncle Steve passed away this weekend. I'm not normally into posting memorials on the internet but I thought maybe I'd share a moment - a pool-related memory.
When we were kids our families would all get together (usually at my parents house) for Thanksgiving. When my Mom and Aunt would get frustrated with us kids running around while they were trying to cook, my Dad and Uncle Steve would load all 5 of us into the van and take us to the arcade. They'd shoo us off with a couple rolls of quarters and then settle in at one of the pool tables. This is one of my first memories of watching anyone play pool. At that time it seemed kind of like golf. Slow and boring. Why stand around and hit balls around a table when there was an entire arcade or exciting games they could have played?! Of course now I know that the offering to take us all to the arcade had the added bonus of giving them a few hours of playing pool and getting out of kitchen duty. Still, it's a happy memory that I find I keep going back to when I think about my family.
Rest in peace, Uncle Steve. You will be missed.
