The only thing I know about the cue is that the owner had it since the late 80s, he said. Its a nice cue and nothing has been changed in the last 22 years at least. Actually, everything including the wrap and tips may be original.
IIRC per Bob Runde, 87 was the year they went to pantograph points and nickel rings as standard. The stitch ring, which can still be ordered from Schon, was standard until 1987, where the nickel ring was an upgrade. I want to say the nickel ring was a $35 upgrade. It looks like an R-6 variant with inlays or and R-12 with without the boxes in the buttcap.
Who made the case and what size is it?

Strange cue for sure. The prong veneers are unusual and the sharp points indicate a pre-1987 cue as PDX said. It does not really look like a R12 variant since all the R12's I have seen have colored veneers in the stitched or silver ring above the wrap.
What stands out as "odd" to me is the diamonds have rounded points. Possibly they were added after the cue was built(?). All of my early Runde cues and even the ones I've owned from after the 1987 CNC transition have needle sharp ivory diamonds.
