"Race to..."

I know this is a non-topic to some (many?) but is "Race to so and so many balls" now the accepted terminology nowadays? I saw it in the American tournament in Maryland, and also in the Finnish one.

Personally, I find it annoying for all the reasons you would imagine. Would it be that hard to ask the 4 or 5 event organizers to just state them as 125 point matches out of respect for the history of the game?

I dunno, maybe it's just me. I know most don't think it is an issue

Yeah I know. It is something that I feel awkward also.. I did not mention about that but peoples who run those programs are not normally so serious players.

Don't let Fran Crimi hear you using that phrase. ;)

Exactly what went through my mind when I saw this thread! ;)

Personally, despite being a former language/linguistics student and teacher myself, I'd still maintain that it makes me way too happy to see any Straight Pool being played, let alone tournaments held, to want to argue terminology with anyone who does. Having said that, the point is well-taken.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Well, OK yes, but it isn't like asking to change the terminology away from 9 ball terms is likely to stop anyone from holding an event.

Let's hope not! ;)
