Rack Question

9 ball

Here's something that has been bugging me for a while and its to do with the 9ball rack you see people constantly talk about how they canno't get a tight rack when playing 9 ball and then there are other people who say that the 9 ball rack is the easiest rack to manipulate.

I think I have the answer STOP USING A STANDARD RACK:mad: , use a diamond shaped rack as when the balls are placed in it they canno't be manipulated as there is nowhere to put your fingers in order to manipulate the rack thus it will give a tight rack and less chances of getting slugged on the break.

My suggestion is to look at the rack, before you take a crack at it. That is within the rules. There are some spaces in a loose rack that actually work for the breaker. Reading the rack for your benefit has become the norm.

Asking your opponent to rerack is within the rules too. However, if you are playing on beat up cloth, reracking may get you a worse rack.

A number of racks used in Bar Boxes are worthless & have no structural soundness to them. Those kind of racks cause a bit of grief.

I have big hands, so I do not like the small diamond shape rack. I've never stiffed an opponent, with a bad rack, to me that is Chicken-Sh*t.

Joe Tucker's book, "RACKING SECRETS" is no longer in print. Joe Tucker's info is now included in "the GREAT Break Shot" book. See write up in Pool N Billiards December 2005
