Rack your own

How often do you play in a rack-your-own tournament where there is NO rule about where the game ball can go on the break for it to count as a win?

I ask because I played in a tournament last Friday and my opponent told me it was rack your own (although no one else was doing it). He broke in the 9 two of the 4 times he broke - both times in one of the bottom corner pockets. It didn't occur to me until afterwards that he might know how to rack for that.

you have the right to check the rack, and you chould do so, because if you dont i will make wing ball every time!!!! do i dont do it as i am a honest guy, but it is possible!!!!:D :D :D

i always rack my own, rather it be in tournament , money game or a friendly game with my dad or brother!.

some people cant be trusted...and i like to know im giving myself a good rack and if i break badly i can only blame myself.

I don't think he was rigging the rack, because he got the job done pretty quickly and it seems to me that it would take a little time to rig it.

So it sounds like the two rules - rack your own AND 9ball in either bottom corner is not a win - do not typically go hand in hand. Correct? In which case, a person should start checking the rack from game 1 rather than waiting until the opponent breaks the game ball in a couple of times.

I don't know you Lady9ball but I like you and I am going to do you a huge favor. Please, Please, Pretty Please buy Joe Tucker's Racking Secrets DVD and you will see if someone is trying to burn you in a rack your on game. It is like having sex for the first time....the world will never be the same after you see it. You will without a doubt know who your friends are.http://www.joetucker.net/store/racking_secrets.htm I have never met Joe but have all of his products and this one is worth it weight in GOLD. That all I have to say.

Most of the tournaments I know about are 'Rack your own' and it is preferred over loser rack.

I don't know of any 9 ball tournament where there is a rule that restricts the pockets the 9 ball can be made in on the break for a win.

Of course, local bars and small weekly tournaments can make up their own rules to make the players happy. Got to keep those players coming back.. why not change the rules?

With all due respect, Carla...don't be so naive.

Racking your own and NOT having a rule about the 9 ball going into one of the lower corners not counting (that was as mouthful) defeats the purpose of racking your own. You'll still have the squabbling over checking the rack.

A couple of local regional tours in the NJ/NY area play rack your own BUT...9 on the break into a lower corner pocket is not a win. It spots up.

Were those 10 Ball tours? seems I remember the 10 can't be made in the pockets behind the rack for the win.

I should explain that I'm not new to tournament play, but have basically taken the last 5 years off. The rack your own concept is used much more frequently now than it was back then, so I'm trying to determine what actions are necessary both as my own racker and as the opponent.

I have Joe's book, but I haven't opened it for several years. I think I remember that gaps in the two balls behind the 9ball make for an easier game ball on the break. How a person racks intentionally WITH the gaps and does so quickly enough to not draw suspicion is beyond me.

Yes, I tend to trust people too much. It's a flaw in my character. :) In this case, the guy was most likely the favorite to win the tournament, and I doubt that he felt I was much of a threat. But then again, it was single-elimination handicapped and I was getting a hefty spot, so who knows....

And that's Karla with a "K".

Sorry, Karla C (we "met" on CCB) ;)

If you freeze up the front 3 balls to teh 9 and leave one of the balls below the 9 loose, it gives the 9 an easy path to the corner. You can rack this up without a lot of fidgeting.

Nope. These are two current 9 ball tours:

Blazetour.com and Predator9balltour.com, run by Jose Burgos and Tony Robles, repectively.
