regardless, a little known fact is that under Texas Express rules, tapping the balls when racking is a foul, and loss of game in 9 ball.

So when your playing a money match by Texas Express rules, and hill-to-hill, and your opponent taps the balls when racking, you automatically win
the set ..... lol (we all know you get a 'special' rack in hill-to-hill mode).

Wow! Thanks for posting this, I didn't know it was a foul. Thanks.....

u should be able to log in. what happened with me, is that the email with the confirmation was in my spambox.

u cant log in , with the old login you had because there was no backup of the forum. just make up a new one, and check your spambox for the confirmation mail.

ps theres nothing to read about it now, but before the hacking, i remember karl being just TO nice to be just politness :p anyway, im on that forum too, hence why i know karl and you :D ive got the same nickname there.

Hi Double-Dave, we used the tapping first time when we were host for Eurotour Women for 1 year ago. The cloth has been changed twice since then, and there is nothing wrong with the slate.

A good advice is to tap in the other end of the table, so those who want to use the triangle can do it but it won'd destroy the tapping.

We are using a template of rubber, with holes for the balls to be put in. Then we tap medium hard 3 times on each ball, and it is perfect racks for maybe the next 4 - 6 months!

Ball passing over the small divets during match has no affect at all. The only thing is if the ball is about to stop where the rack was, then it will most probably stop in the hole.

It's better than the Sardo, and racking is done in few seconds.

They use a foam template (mould) which is in the shape of a triangle with 15 holes in it. They tap the front ball position first and then do one at a time.

It puts the dimples in a position which causes the balls to all naturally bunch up together.

IMHO it's the best way to do it. Fast and consistant. The Sardo does not work well without the dimples from what I've seen.

I guess a ball could travel across the edge of a couple of dimples and turn noticeably. I figure you better just avoid real slow shots across that region.

Colin

I am relieved to find that the Rack-Em-Rite.com site no longer exists. Putting dimples in the cloth is a good way to get 86'ed out here in the West!

I didn't know that the Sardo rack requires such dimples. That saves me some money I was thinking of spending on one.

I don't think there is any significant effect. If there were, every little dimple due to a jump shot would make the ball veer off.

I think people are looking for an excuse.

Far more of a problem for slow-rolling balls are spot stickers that seriously change the ball's path when it is near the spot. I could swear that a ball was deflected a good half a ball when I was watching at DCC in January.

I have played 9 and 10-ball on tapped tables, and there were only maybe two times I noticed a slight roll from the dimples in many many hours of play, and those rolls didn't have any effect on the game. In one pocket however, 1/4" can be the difference between a great shot and disaster, and there are often slow rolling shots happening in the area of the rack. I tried paying 1-pocket on a tapped table, and after the first game, it became obvious that we needed to rack on the other end of the table. Even after switching ends of the table there were still a few funny rolls caused by the dimples. If the table is only to be used for games like 9-ball or 10-ball, it might make sense, but there are other games out there that it can cause serious problems for.
