Radial pin and Southwest pin shafts

I have a cue that the shafts are just wood, as in a Radial or a Southwest shaft and it seems a little loose.

I was told that I could take a moistened q tip and run that along the treads of the shaft.

Do you all agree with this? I tried this with my Gilbert J/B and it has snugged it up nicely.

I have the other cue (higher end cue) that I guess, I am little hesistent to do it.

Any other ideas or techniques?

Thanks
Ken

how to tighten your joint threads

a trick I learned for Steve Hebert (Abear cues) years ago was this:

take Krylon clear spray paint, and go outside and spray a shot or two into the shaft hole and then role the shaft around let the paint work itself into the threads. It drys quickly and protects the inside of the shaft from moisture and also snuggs ups the threads.

I have done this for years, even on my old JF southwest I play with, works like a charm.

You can do that then use bees wax or carnauba wax after.
