Radial pin issue

I have an aftermarket LD shaft which fits one of my Radial pin cues perfectly but wont thread completely onto a different Radial pin cue that I just purchased. The new cue seems to have 9 threads on the pin while I only count 7 threads on the older cue. Everything else about the pins seem identical. Could it be that the nylon insert in the shaft simply needs to be tapped a little deeper?

We can't just guess what you have .
You might as well post pictures.
Imported cues have a different "radial" screw outside the big brands like Lucasi and Predator.
 
It's a Joss West that has Bill's prototype radial pin with the set screw in the end of it that he used in the mid to late 90's. I will try to post a pic of it later this evening
 
Here is a pic of my Dayton radial pin next to the ivory sleeved JW 20180410_120629_001.jpg
 
These are two different pins and nothing about them is interchangeable.
The pin in the JW is an American ball-screw, 3/8x8
The pin in the Dayton is a 'Radial', 3/8x7.65
Drilling the hole larger will not change the tpi.

What's interesting is that Bill Stroud/JW is one of the inventors
of the 'Radial' pin yet we see an AM.Ball in one of his cues.
"It's a Joss West that has Bill's prototype radial pin".
'Prototype' being the keyword here. Glad that Bill chose to move forward.
 
What exactly do you mean by "pilot"? It appears to me that overall the Dayton pin is a hair longer so it doesn't make sense to me why the JW pin should bottom out?

So somewhat of a "bastard" pin KJ? I think Joey was saying drill the hole deeper not bigger? Correct me if I'm wrong. So bottom line, is there anything I can do to get an aftermarket Radial shaft to fit this JW?

Yes, pay someone to make the proper insert for your shaft. A "Radial" off the shelf will not fit the JW
 
Two different sized taps are offered. The first thing I would do is get a piece of wood tapped normal size and try that before any changes were done.

In this particular example no, it's not a bastard, at least in my opinion.
This pin is pertinent to this cue. That's the pin it was meant to have
and for no amount of love or money would I consider changing it.
Also in my opinion, no one should be allowed to work on that cue other than
Bill himself or his appointee. That's how 'special' I believe this cue to be.
One of his prototype cues built during his R/D of the Radial !!!

As to an aftermarket shaft, the pin in the JW does not present a problem.
As to make & mdl of said shaft; well, that's up to you and possibly the builder.

I agree with you KJ. Not in a million years would I consider changing out the pin or doing anything to affect the integrity of this cue. I just want to play with it and enjoy it as intended. I just want to be ale to screw a Tiger shaft on it so I can maintain the condition of the original shafts.
