Radial Thread for QD Butt Extension ?

I am making a cue for a friend of mine, and he wants a 8" extension to screw into the bottom of the butt (through a hole in the bumper). I was thinking of putting in a aluminum or steel insert behind the bumper, drilling a hole through said bumper, and tapping it radial for a kind of quick disconnecting type of extension. My question is this: If I put an insert into the butt, underneath the bumper, is the radial tap going to hold up to the stress of tapping into aluminum or steel, or should I try to go with Phenolic? I am also thinking about overall weight in the cue, and may NEED to go with the steel or aluminum rather than the lighter Phenolic. Any ideas ???

I have always liked that one that you did Chuck.

When you screw the extension on tight, is there any flex from it being up against the bumper?

I have a Predator that KJ is refinishing for me. I will be doing one like that myself.

Looks like you reamed the inside of the bumper out a bit too, so the insert will be as close as possible. Is that correct or is it just the pic.

Have thought about the Uni-loc and insert, but I was planning on having the "insert" in the bumper a little deeper, and concaving the pin-side so there is a wood-to-wood contact around the bumper. I want it to be completely solid, almost like it was made to be 8" longer. All of the Uni-loc joints I have seen don't seem to have a lot of extra room to play with, you seem to need them pretty close. Granted, I have never installed one, so I can't know for sure, but that's the way they seem. I just need to know if the radial tap can handle going into aluminum or steel. I am guessing that aluminum shouldn't be a problem since aluminum (unless we're talking aircraft aluminum) isn't terribly harder than phenolic, but I am wondering if the steel may be a problem. I am still not sure which I am going to use, because the overall weight of the cue is going to be a determining factor, I am trying to get the cue as close to the ideal weight as possible because I am making it for one of my friends/teammates, and of course, I want it to be perfect.
