Rail angles, cushions, 10 foot anniversary

I have a 10 foot Brunswick Anniversary. I am in the process of determining what I can do to maximize playability.

Here are some specs -

Cushion nose height about 1-9/16 to 1-5/8. Too high.

Rail cushion glue surface angle is 27 degrees. Not even close to 23.5.

Playing surface is exactly 56". I did not measure long rail yet.

Current cushions are about 1-1/8 all sides give or take. K-66???

Rail face to back of feather strip is just over 1-3/8.

I think I should recut rail to 23.5 degrees and install k55. Right?

What cushions should I use? I want this table to play as close to a Diamond as possible. Cushions for a 10 table seem to be urban legends like Big Foot... Artemis make the Intercontinental k55 in 188" length but thats the only one offered from a quality manufacturer. Where does Diamond get their cushions for their ten footers?

I think the Artemis Intercontinental is for a carom table and may play too fast. Anybody have experience with these cushions?

I think this table may have been a snooker or billiard table at birth. Do the metrics I posted agree this was a snooker table? Its currently setup as a pool table but I think somebody has already converted it. There is no down angle on the facings and the pocket casting look like they were enlarged by hand.

Any help will be appreciated.

edit - the rails say carom on the bottom so these rails billiard/carom rails.

A lot more work needs to be done on the rails.....other than 55 cushions and changing the angles.
The rail has to thicker if it was a snooker and thinner if it was a billiards table.
The Artemis 10 foot cushion is a good cushion for 10' table....not good for 9' tables.
To much spring and banking short....Diamond tables do that with Artemis cushions....they play a little better now on the blue label tables....but not much difference than the red label tables played.
Sounds like your going to do the work yourself.....good luck...lot of work doing it right.

Want to just sell it and not worry about it anymore? I know what I'd do with it. You really should

send the table off and have the job done properly. You'll be way happier that you did. Or maybe

you'd be able to sell it for a price I can stand lol

I would love to send the rails out but the long rail is one piece and I am in Alaska. Shipping is ridiculous and difficult. Almost impossible to get a table shipped here too. I tried so many times...

I doubt there is a local guy I would trust to do a better rail job than I could. I have every wood working tool made so I can do it. Top professionals are rare in any field. Most know enough, few know it all. Know anybody in Alaska you can recommend?

I am considering cutting long rail in half and machining out for pocket castings brackets but thats just adding another job to the list! Even if I cut the long rails in half, shipping would probably be over $1000. But the real issue is finding somebody willing to ship to AK...

Turns out these are carom rails which is probably why the rail angle is 27 degrees. 27 makes a recut easy to 23.5.

I would expect the billiard rails to be thicker and the snooker rails thinner.
Is that correct, Mark? I sure hope not. Running them down a joiner is preferable to adding a layer of hardwood. I'll do what ever it takes I suppose.

Thanks for the info on the Artemis cushions. That was just what I needed to pull the trigger and order some.

I am hoping the slate is snooker cut or billiard so I can duplicate a Diamond shelf. Im not even sure if snooker and pool tables have the same pocket geometry cut into the slate. Do they?

I dont have the slate in my shop yet so I have not looked at the pocket cuts. Another job Id rather not do! I have not had a practice table in 3 years so I am very motivated. I need to get it done quick before I lose interest and it becomes another unfinished project to add to the list!

If you have any advice, I would definitely appreciate it. I'll post pics if I do it myself.

If they're billiard rails, you have more bridges to cross than just how to rebuild the rails. Corner pocket castings, casting shields....side pockets as well. Even the rail blinds won't swap over, not to mention no ball box tray.

I estimate there are no more than seven 10 foot tables in the entire state of Alaska. Two billiard and 5 snooker that I know of. Ive been looking for ten years. I will do whatever modifications it takes to convert to a pool table. This table has already been converted. I am going to repair the conversion and get it done right.

Its just wood and it will do what I say no matter the fight. Again, it just machining wood!

Ball box tray would have been nice. Classicbilliards.net sels repros which I would buy buy they dont ship to Alaska. They are also the only online supplier with Artemis k55 118" cushions as well and they wont ship to me... /sigh

I did not see a write up on converting a billiard table so I guess its up to me to post my failures/successes with the conversion. Wish me luck.
