Rail Insert material?

Does anyone know of any common pipe that rail inserts can be made from?

I have a hard time paying $9 each for these. I can make these if I can find the material. I have checked standard copper water lines at Lowe's and they are either too big or too small.

Is the only purpose of these to keep the bolt from breaking through the top of the rail? If so, maybe a thin strip of sheet metal on top of the pin would work.

Any suggestions?

That is a sleave, used to fit over a pocket iron ear that is to small to fit the drilled out hole on the end of the rail, an adaptor.

If you're trying to reduce the play where the iron ear goes into the rail end
you can find a larger variety of sizes in plastic tubing to use as a sleeve as opposed to metal pipe.
If you have pocket iron bolt length worries use a shorter bolt.

you can find these in your plumbing section at home depot. you will need to drill the hole. just bring your pocket with you to see which size gives a snug fit.
