rail repair

I tried finding RKC's before & after thread but couldn't so i started a new one. I welcome any advice or critique privately or publicly.

This is what happens when the corners of the slate in the pocket are cut off and someone sits on the table. The last guy who worked on the table tried to fix it
I used 3/4 oak for the the one as it was almost perfect for the depth of damage and poplar for the other one as it was deeper. And in the one i decided to cut out the awfuly big knot in the wood

great job on the repair..the more work like that you do the better you will get at it..keep up the good work. Try to stay away from the hard oak in the subrails, I think you got away with it on that one though, the hard wood will splinter and crack in to pieces over time from the impact of balls in the pockets'

Thanks Rob. That didn't occur to me about the oak but it won't be a problem as the table will probably only see a moderate amount of action.

Nice work Jim! The only critique I could mention would be to cut the cloth relief a little more shallow or you may see a slight gap between the bed and rail. Great job though!!
