You simply hitting the ball too thick. You aim is off.
With that much of an angle, you should be a ble to hit it with inside or outside english top or bottom and still make it. Just keep shooting it and be aware of the way you are aproaching this shot.

Ouch, I've never considered the personal safety issue. If I have to play Earl at DCC next year maybe I'll avoid referring to my cheat sheets (but I have to say I would love to see what that squirrelly SOB would do).
