I have noticed that some GCs have "bouncier" rails than others? In particular, the GCs here in Dallas, Texas have about 1/2 - 3/4 of the rebound as the GCs used in Amsterdam billiards in NY.

Does anyone have any insight as to the why this would happen? Does Brunswick have different rail rubber options? Or is there a possibility that the rails were upgraded?

Lastly, as a practical matter, is there a standard for how much rebound is the "right" amount? I know the BCA says 4 - 4.5 table lenghts, but this doesn't take cloth into account...

The Gold Crowns that were installed in this area about 12 years ago all seem to have dying cushions. Two tables next to each other might seem to play differently by a factor of two. I think it's not a matter of options, it is a matter of which batch of rubber you happened to get. This problem is well-known by the local table repairmen. I've been told that it was due to insufficient additive to the rubber mix. Unfortunately, this sort of problem only shows up after years of play. It points out the problem of getting parts subcontracted by unknown or cheapest-possible sources.

If you shoot straight up and down the table, I think you should be able to hit the far cushion three times without getting a hernia.
 
i recently bought a used GCIII that came out of a clicks pool hall here in dallas.

One of the first things i noticed was that the rails seemed slower than they should be.

I'd also like to know what kind of rail rubber would be a good replacement.

Hope to get some answers on this also.
