rails without diamonds

Professional cue games...like snooker, for example. The diamonds aren't needed in snooker which is proof enough that they aren't needed in any other pocket billiard game. 3C is a different story. But I'm sure if you stick Ronnie in a 3C table he will perform quite alright. 3C is different because you are aiming for a ball. For someone to say you need diamonds for positional play where the targets areas are large in comparison to a ball is ridiculous. You don't need them for 1 or 2 rail kick shots on pocket billiards to be deadly accurate either. 3, 4 or 5+ rails I can understand needing a little help. I've seen some English pool players bank out of this world. No diamonds. Just experience and judgement. The same can be achieved on an American table without diamonds. Its just that people are lazy and prefer them because it gives them an easy reference point to work from.

That is correct, the NZ tables do have clean rails. They do not have the cheater dots or marks as they are called here. The snooker tables have different pocket sizes and ball sizes to an 8ball table.So the rail is at a different height usually as well.

Interesting cultural difference:
The diamonds/sights are known in one place as 'cheater marks' and are left off regulation tables. Pocket billiard play does not suffer for the lack of cheater marks, at any level of mastery.

In another region they are called 'sights' and are integral to all pocket billiard tables, and use of the sights should be mastered to achieve the highest level of play.

Wonder what the guys down at Joe's Bar think the sights are for - maybe they are spots to look at to judge their level of intoxication - big fuzzy spots means don't gamble for more than a dollar, sharp spots means go for it and bet two.

Sir, you make a broad statement about a snooker player being able to bank 3 or more cushion on a 'Billiard table' without any issues! When the table has different cushions, cloth, balls, going 3 or MORE cushions! Did I miss anything!

From your statement, it tends me to believe, you're NOT really a player yourself, is this true? If you are, you may want to rethink your views on this subject.

No, I'm not a 3C player. I am a snooker player though. Are you saying Ronnie, one of the best cue sports players ever know can't play 3 C at all without diamonds? Have you seen his knowledge of CB paths? I've seen it first hand and can assure you it's second to none.

I can see there's absolutely no use in furthering this conversation! Because we're talking about apples and oranges here! I have GREAT respect for Ronnie's Snooker game, but, I'm talking about 3C kicks and tables!
