I'm a 5, and I know that I don't wanna try and hang with the 7's and 8's in a regular 9-ball format. In a games won scenario, I'd get smoked, far more than an 8-ball match with the same player.

JustaDub - I read my comment and I didnt mean it to be condescending. I was a 5 in 09 and move up in Feb of this year. Of course I quietly thought I could hang with anyone but I prefer to speak softly and carry a big stick. Your attitude about playing is perfect. Play in those tourneys with your goal being to never be an easy out. Dont give up when you are down, especially when you are getting weight. I have two 5s on my team that if they would stick around and practice afte hours I could have to a 6 or 7 by next session.

It's not a problem, and I get it.

And don't think that I won't try and go after the big dogs, given a chance. I love the challenge. Fortunately, pretty much everyone that plays around here, including the better players, will play with anyone, so I get a chance to work out with those 7's a lot. I get my licks in. If I can find some consistency in my stroke, I'll get to that 6, too.

I'm a "6" in 9 ball and "4" in 8 ball.

My team made it to Vegas this past year "2012" for 9 ball.

It's not who sand bags the most in Vegas it's who sand bags and doesn't get caught doing it. I played a "6" from Indiana. I was up 30 to 4 and only won 12-8. I scratched on the break and he caught back up. I saw a "3" break and make 5 balls then ran out. Call it lucky or not no way should a 3 be able to break that good.

We went out 2nd rd but still had a blast.

Our other in house team from white diamonds "chris miller" took 2nd.

Sandbaggers

We tied for 9th a couple of years ago and lost to the team that took second. The funny thing is, right before they played us, they got smashed by a team from Florida and and sat there for 20 minutes thinking they were done. Then they called DQ'ed the Florida team. They had 3 players that went up a s/l in two days. It is always the sandbagging 2's and 3's hiding in the weeds but it caught up with them.

I do the same thing and they frown a little. Every tournament I ask them when APA is going to make it more like "real nine ball" just to ruffle their feathers. I also coined the term "I just got APA'ed" whenever I give ball in hand after a break because I had to try to hit one off three rails.

Funny thing is, a 4 doesnt really get the magnitude of how much that really changes the game. They think they can really play with you.

When I get victimized by 8b slop or some other APA rule, I solemly say...
"I'm sorry. You've tested positive for APA."

If it's really bad, you say "Stage 4 APA" or "terminal APA".

Lack of push always bugged me too. But that's... THE EQUALIZER lol. I always wondered if someone's ever worked out a trick break that makes no balls and consistently leaves the other guy hooked. It's probably kind of hard to make 0 balls consistently breaking 9 ball.

I've seen 2 break'n'runs by 2s and a table run(all in 9). Would I bet against them doing it again any time soon? You betcha. All 3 involved some luck.

As for the "3" making 5 balls.. it can happen. The break is sort of a crap shoot anyways. I'm a 9, but that doesn't mean I'm guaranteed a ball on the break. Some days it's like I can't stop em from going in and other days I couldn't make a ball on the break if I was paid to.

I had a player on a team of mine. He started with a Simpsons cue and half the time would miss ball-in-hand shots. A season or two later, we're playing in Tri-Cups/Cities and he's our 4th player. I had to go pick up the 5th player in case we needed him. I get back and our 3 is on the hill against a 6. Apparently he table ran the first game or something and damn near did it again the second rack. Talk about performing under pressure..

I was a "4" in 9 ball going into our tri cup tourney. Got moved to a 5 for our qualifier tourney and beat two weak 7s 19-1 and 18-2. Got to Vegas and I was a "6". I'm locked in and can't go back down. I've been playing pool everyday since we got back in august. Finally can break and run more than a rack at a time. Been playing a little over a year now.

Looking forward to being in Vegas again this year for 8 ball and 9 ball. Just gotta get my teams to win. This past year we were all barely 21. Lol
