Ralf Souquet

The final out Ralf made in the semifinals of the 2006 World Pool Championships was amazing. I think it was hill-hill and I think it was the 7-ball that he had to make?

It was one of the best pressure shots I've ever seen.

It might be on Youtube?

It was this position (on the 5-ball) against Fu Che-Wei of Taiwan:

Can't find anything on YouTube or Google. Here is a good article on that match. -> http://www.worldpoolchampionship.com/article_detail.asp?article_id=2201

Our group was with Souquet and Engert throughout the last 4-days of WPC 2006. Both guys are superb, a gentleman and outgoing. They compliment each other and are very good friends. Souquet the silent type and Engert the clowning around always joking kind. After the finals, our group went back to the hotel (Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila). Had drinks at the bar and still celebrated dinner really late at nite. The hotel manager went out of his way to open the restaurant below just for us to have dinner, with him joining us. Photo below.

lol. My ex-girlfriend felt sorry for you. I always wanted to try the shot myself but I have never been able to find anyone willing help out.:D

Hahaha very understandable!!!!
Wouldn't do it if I didn't trust him this much!!!
And I did tell him that I would get him AND his girlfriend back for it!!!
Haven't seen her since but she might be in Cambridge too this weekend...

Don't worry.. Won't do anything to him while he's playing! ;)

Engert is always clowning around... At the tournaments where I sometimes announce, he somehow always has the needs to start pulling weird faces in front of me..Or saying weird things... Once in Norway I just blurted out through the mic: Thomas, stop being weird and start playing!!! you ......

Can see that on the picture that Philip came along?
What did you think of him?

Just meet him that day. He was such a nice guy as well. I was seated at the bottom end of the table right next to him and we conversed a lot.

At this years Mosconi Cup, Ralf was playing very good and they were a real team. What was Mika thinking when he screwed up 2 9balls only god knows....
Gambling is not very common here in Europe.People in pool halls almost never play for money.I have never been asked to play for money. We play for beer or morning coffee:p Losers pay table time ofourse. And I don`t know what`s with cash and americans.I play pool for fun, for pride, but certanly not to make money.Part of your culture I guess...

Whats up with that?! you could have said "some" Americans. Are you going to slam the Filipinos because they almost never play without betting?

pool means different things to different people. For some it's to make money, others it's to relax, and for some we use gambling to put more pressure on our game to harden ourselves for competition.

I'm sue you didn't mean anything, but it just struck me the wrong way.

Last August at the Joss Finals at Turning Stone in Onieda,NY I had arranged for some table time with Ralf and get him to show me a few things. Is was only to be for an hour and the next thing I knew we were almost at 2 hours. Since then the odd time I will drop him an email and he always remembers who I am and comments on the next time we can get together to play.

The best all around embassador the game has!

in munich were poolhalls anybody gambled in there, also players like bustamante, ortmann or efren (when he was there for a tournament)
gambling was very very usual for that players, but i dont know whether souquet gambled also

I hope this wasn't something that Marcus Chamat said, I have never seen him play pool just for fun and I have also never seen him play when it was not for money.

I guess Marcus was enjoying his tournament winnings in this snapshot! ;)

I was actually just making a joke about nekdo saying players from Europe never seem to gamble. That was a comment from him.

not true!!!!
Marcus plays in the European Championships and there's no money to win in there!!!
Only a trophy and the title!

I dind`t mean to offend anybody, I just wanted to say that people in Europe gamble a lot less then in usa, not to mention Pinoys.Offcourse pros play for money, that`s their job for gods sake.I also didn`t said that gambling is a bad thing.Every culture is different and it should be:rolleyes:

A German friend of mine who knows him says he used to have long blond hair before he shaved his head.

I'd like to see a picture of that.

I'm not saying he never had long hair, but I saw him when he first came to the states {at the request of Jim Rempe, IIRC}, and I've never seen him with long hair since. Maybe before he came over here. It would be a sight to see!

just asked Ralf yesterday is he's ever had long blond hair...
he started laughing..
his hair colour is ginger...
before he shaved he never grew it long....
:D

Ralf lost in the last 16 to Imran with 1-3 in sets...
So we ended up having chinese with a very small group...
Ralf, Marcus and me and my bf...

I on the other hand, wish that people here were playing for money as well. It makes the game so much more fun. Playing for pride it gets boring fast (at least for me). That is something that I like about the American pool community, which by the way seems very mature and nice from the posts in this forum.
