As usual, I got a request for an appraisal.. however this time they actually bought it. WOW was I happy. Once in a while a cue comes along, ever from someone that you might not be into. But you can appreciate the cue, and the time period and what the cues is. Well lo and behold someone sends me these pics... its a 67--68 Rambow is unbelievable shape. I have been give permission to show the pics, but please respect the persons privacy and do not hunt them down. I have seen a lot of Rambows, only 6-8 with substantial work in them.

This one might be the most intriguing. I'll let you see for yourselves... Notice the celluloid dots and hand cut pearl diamonds.

Very nice. I think this is the first Rambow I've seen with diamond shape inlays.

All the best,
WW

Ya see, no shame in requesting your balls at the tops of the prongs

Skins -------- loves some balls at the tips .. and ONLY at the prong tips

Very cool
Really a good blank, the Titlist colors are nice & vibrant
Interesting cue for sure

I gave it time to see who would figure it out.... alas.. not a one...

I have seen a few hundred Rambows, this is the only one with a white phenolic ring. Who else did this? Balabushka. He used a cut phenolic cueball for his, this appears to be a phenolic ring. The inlay pattern in the prongs is also Bushka, but also used by Paradise, Palmer. The backend is a Bushka backend.
IMHO Herman was shown a Bushka and made his version of it. This inlay set screams east coast mid 60's... Today there would be a whole lot of CDT crying over this cue. That is what makes this cue so hot, if you look at every inlaid Rambow, they have a similar flow and pattern. This is nothing like those. Plus at least 90-95% all ORIGINAL. I never cared to much for Rambows, but if I collected, this cue would be the one I would need to have.

Rambow 1968???

Hi,

Mr. Rambow passed away in 1967, so this is not likely a 1968 Rambow cue.

I further would suggest that it might not be a Rambow cue at all, but perhaps a Bihun. The particular style of signature curlicue can be seen on a Bihun signature.

If it is a Bihun, that would perhaps explain the rather peculiar set of decorative elements that just don't seem Rambowesque.

Just my opinion, and yes, I've got some Rambows.

Take care,
Nick

The joint and short pin are characteristic of Rambow. Also the wrap, somewhat rough looking. It would help to get a look at the back end of the buttplate, but it looks Rambow from the side, as well as the signing. Wrap is typically where Rambow would start against the points.

Given that Joe authenticated it, you're up against some pretty tough company here...

All the best,
WW

My apologies.. I said 68 because she had written down some verbiage about her pool playing days being 64-68..
