Just what I grabbed today to play with my daughter, including some recent pick-ups.

The Cue & Case Gallery seems slower than I remember, so I figured what the heck.

McDermott E-K1 (60 inch, is that rare?) (my daughter loves this cue, both the design and playing with it, 5/16x14 piloted)
Gandy HC-150
Murrey M-120 (Viking made, killer curly, vinyl veneers)
Block Letter Joss, my first cue, have it 40 years this year
Karl Mayer (played first time today, blew my mind how nice it plays)
J. Pechauer (my break cue)
Mali (the one I strap to my sissy bar in a case if I am on my Harley, nice player)
Jacoby Jump Cue (Older one before they had the "Jumper" decals on them, I hate that, like the cue needs a label?)

I see that handsome Murrey made it to you safely.
😎👍

Yup. I need to clean the shaft, otherwise pretty nice. Plays nice, no complaints there. The curly is amazing. Nice example of the 1987 catalog. One example is plenty for me...unless I run into a steal. Oh, and it came with the original Murrey branded case, which was a surprise. I love complete sets. I have the original case and 1994 receipt for the EK. It doesn't mention it's a 60 inch cue. I wonder how unusual that is. I might ask McDermott.

Repost from 2012:

I had the good fortune to go to a wrong address in North Plainfield, NJ one afternoon in the early 90s. I don't remember what I was trying to find, but Karl Mayer answered the door. His shop was located in that building. He invited me in and spent the afternoon showing me how he made cues. Definitely an old world craftsman who had the same passion for his art that he had when he started. It was one of those magic afternoons that will always be remembered.

In those days, I knew a few good players who played with Karl's cues. They were not fancy by the standards of the day, but they played well and were a good value for the money.

Very cool. I only have two Mayer cues. Happily both in excellent condition.

Those are way cool. I remember that the pool hall where I played in Greenbrook, NJ had a display of Karl’s cues that were available for purchase. I considered buying one after having met him. But I had recently bought a South West cue that I was pretty enamored with. I generally only bought with the intention of making a cue my main player.
