Rare Beauty

Here's a few pics I shot of The Cue Ball in Salem, OR when I was there back in 2019. This is the Centennial Room. I didn't get any pics of the Anniversary room but it was similar, just with all Anniversaries. They had a Centennial for sale that I entertained buying but the cost of getting it to SoCal from OR was going to be too much given they were already asking $15K for the table.

What were the pocket size
From the factory the pockets were 5 inches. The way the pocket facings were from the factory , if the ball didn't enter in the right way , the ball would jaw and sit there in the pocket, even with the pockets that wide. Have seen many Centennial 's and Anniversary tables that were that way over the years. They also banked short , saw that in a lot of em over the years also.

Thanks. Do you recall what the pocket sizes were at the "Cueball?" From your outstanding pictures, they look like 5's

Not my pictures, so I haven't a clue about those pockets. I do know when I installed new super speed rails on my table and reset the facings a bit, it cured a bit of the problem of balls entering the pocket area and jawing up, but it was not completely cured , but enough for me. With HR 860 and the super speed rails , ya gotta watch the pace of the cue ball coming off the rails a lot,,it's really fast now and banks way better.

Probably 5. They're not tight tables. Here's a pic of (most) of the other side.

I think the first photo's are from a Brunswick model poolroom. I seem to recall Brunswick trying to market turnkey poolrooms. They would sell you almost everything to go into the poolroom business, at one price! Brunswick projected business increases based on a few year increase with no end in sight. It was kind of like the old thing of doubling your money every day.

According to Brunswick you could be a gazillionaire in a few years with a constantly growing cashflow. Pie in the sky and the marketing resembled a pyramid scheme. I think they made it to market and sold a few rooms but Brunswick didn't cover the US with poolrooms as they envisioned.

Correction:

Yes they did. Brunswick rooms were EVERYWHERE. Combo bowling/billiard rooms were in every city in America. Standalone Brunswick billiard rooms were built by the hundreds in the 60s. Bars with Brunswick supplies were dozens in every city.

Spot in the small city I've lived in for the last 40 years Martinsville Va has a bowling alley that was set up by Brunswick. The place was built and finished in 61 and with nice lanes and 5 of the GC 1's. Gent that owned it with a partner died early in life a few years back and his partner took the tables out and put in a couple of bar boxes , so he wouldn't have to deal with time rentals. Tables are sitting in a warehouse and were in good shape when taken down, have no clue about the state of them now though. Back when, there was lots of play from all over coming around,
Black Bart (Bob Ogbern) grew up 30 min from the spot and a gent we called Pop's ran the pool part of the operation. Pop's played very well being and old man, many told me Pop's was the one who helped with Bob's game. Steve Carter and Ogbern frequented the place on many occasions . Martinsville had more millionaires per capital than any other place in the country at that time. Wish I had pics of the place from when it was. I was only 10 when it opened and by the mid 70's there wasn't action
there any more, it had dispersed to the area's other 5 poolrooms.
