Rare Gold Crown I with Vermont slate from January 1961 for Sale

Hi Everyone,

New here. We are moving and I have to sell my beloved one of a kind Gold Crown I. Gold Crown I with original Vermont slate. Brunswick began manufacturing the Gold Crowns in 1961, this one might be the first one ever made. I have the original receipt from January 27, 1961.

Questions: Whats is a fair price for this one of a kind table? Anyone here interested in buying? I am in Madison, CT.

It's very cool that it's such an early unit and you have the original receipt.
I think the early ones were labeled AR6100 or something like that.
Curious, are you the original owner?
Assume it does not have adjustable leg levelers?
It might be desirable where a collector might pay you more than for a really nice GC-I.
I'm not up-to-date on what the market dictates but I feel like the starting price for a really nice GC-1 is $2,500 and up.

You could join the true gold crown lover's club and haul it around with you like a boat anchor. Rent a storage unit and spend $1,200 a year to store it for the next 20 years like many of us do..:cool::cool::cool:

I would take $5k for it. too low?

I am not the original owner, second. I got it about 2 years from the original spot, it was sitting there since 1961. I hired a pro to take it apart and right away he said you have something special here, its the early original Vermont slate. Then under the table the receipt was tucked away. It does not have adjustable levelers.

Yes, it's AR6100. The guy that took it apart replaced rubbers and felt. The orange sides and white legs were just old, paint faded. I had it repainted. Thats it. Plays awesome and solid as it comes. I hate to sell it but it is what it is.

If you can find the right buyer you might get $5k. I would not take $5k for my GC-1/2 but that's because I want and love it. My GC is super clean and all the brightworks have been buffed, polished and plated. Corner casting are plated with electroless nickel and the feet are chromed.
 
Unfortunately, pool tables in homes become like pianos when it comes time to let them go. You have to make someone a great deal or get the needle in the haystack buyer who would pay your price.

Im also in ct and when l went hunting for my gc1 there were a fair number of options ranging from approximately $1k - $3k. The one that i ended up with in great condition sold for $1800. It was being stored by its owner at a big billiard sales and supply outlet in the famous old thread factory in Willimantic, l think their name was D&S Billiards.

Imo you might have some luck in the $2500 - $3000 range but don’t be surprised if you end up closer to $2k.

You have what looks to be a very nice table and with the cool factor of having that original paperwork but don’t think that will add a lot of dollar value if any suggestion, if it were me, I would be calling the pool halls in East Haven, New London, Wallingford, Vernon, Southington and Hamden checking with the owners of those establishments to see if either they or someone they know might be in need of a nice gold Crown

Yup, finding the right buyer that's close enough to make it worth transporting is the key. I agree you can find these cheap if you're willing to wait a while until a local one comes up for sale.

Thanks for the advice. I might give them a call but I doubt they would pay over $3k. Got an offer for $3k but I don't think I would sell it for $3k. I would probably just storage it. It's in great condition, plays great and it has history. Any idea how many GC I were made?

I would suggest that you don’t throw away the guys number who offered $3000

As for breaking it down and storing it as AZ member, Hungarian pointed out, that’s a trap that many of us fall into - only you will know whether that’s a good idea probably basing it on whether or not and more importantly, when you would be able to reinstall it, and Enjoy it

Our resident Brunswick gold Crown experts, rexus31 and RealKingCobra, would probably be able to help you with the manufacturing stats

Unfortunately, pool tables aren't like cars or motorcycles, unless you are talking about an Anniversary, Centennial or antique Brunswick. Although you have a very nice early Gold Crown I, those on the hunt for a table aren't interested in how early in the run the table is and there is no way of substantiating if it was the "first" Gold Crown made. That is purely speculative and a bit of a misnomer. These tables were not assembly line produced but were kitted together from parts off the shelf. As such, the table isn't "serialized" as a whole, or "numbers matching". You do have what appears to be the original receipt indicating it was sold in the first year of production which is cool, but it doesn't equate to added value. Players/buyers that are in the know looking for a Gold Crown I would rather have a later model with the metal nameplate (assuming yours has the plastic nameplate it left the factory with), adjustable feet (early GCI's did not have this) and floating nut plates in the rails (early GCI's had figure 8 nut plates). Added bonus in the resale market is if the subrails have been calibrated and extended by a known mechanic with new cushions installed. It's a shame someone painted the aprons and covered up one of the original Gold Crown I colors of Blue, Gold, White or Tangerine. A big selling point is knowing this is a genuine Gold Crown I and not some Franken-Crown, meaning it most likely has all the parts it originally left the factory with. IMO, I think your asking price is very optimistic and I would jump at the $3K offer, however it's not my decision to make. Good luck with your sale. It's a fine looking table.

Brunswick didn't keep sales records, unfortunately. That being said, the Gold Crown I was in production from 1961-1974. With it being the commercial and professional standard during the entire run, I'd be surprised it they sold less than 100,000 units, most likely much more.
 
I hope you can get the 5k you suggested, but I would have to agree that 3k for that table would be a price I couldn't turn down.
Unfortunately, few tables hold any real value.
