Rauenzahn On eBay

Kind of a steep price for firewood isn't it?
I apologize if I offended anyone. I spoke too fast. I still think it shows a very poor character to say something like that about another mans cue and the work of a cuemaker.

Actually, that is a VERY good price on that cue. I used to own an RZ, and they are very nicely made and play fantastic. A good cue for the money. His price is pretty reasonable in that auction.

Shorty

I've always been surprised by how little his cues bring used. I've never priced one new but for the work and quality I think they should bring a little more than production cue prices.

That was harsh. I think it's a good looking cue and priced pretty fairly. Why don't you post up some pics of your cues and let us judge them?

Now thats a good idea !!!!!!!!! Except he probably doesnt own anything worth judging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

It is a good looking cue. 1- pocket, I read the description fast, what kind of wood. Points look like kingwood?

"Firewood"

Seeing as how Jerry (Rauenzahn) is rumored to be a member of the Baltimore mafia as well as the Maryland Road Warriors (bad ass bikers)-lets hope he doesn't see the "firewood" comment. The author of that comment could get an unpleasant visit.

When I first hit that cue - I was surprised at how nice it plays. Having owned a Scruggs, a Jensen and a few other high end SS jointed cues - it favorably compares with them all.

However - a guy can only own and play so many cues! I need to sell the Rauenzahn to buy something new - ha!!

Anybody ever hit or played a "Sherm" cue?? Opinion.....??

Actually Jerry is from North Western PA area, and is quite a nice guy. Use to actually be one of the better players in the area about 20 yrs ago or so. I have not dealt with him in about 14yrs or so, but when I did his business practices, quality and service tended to leave alot to be desired, which is why I will not do business with him again. I have owned two of his cues and both were not of the quality one would expect from a handmade cue, especially the finish.

If thats harsh then so be it, maybe things have changed in the years that have passed, if so good, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

As far as my cues I have had too many to count, and am currently working with DZ cues on a new design. Current playing cue however, is a prototype Meucci OL-4 butt that I have had for about 20 yrs using a Tiger X shaft, and have a OB-1 shaft on the way in.

Doh. I should read my own post, lol. Nice cue is it KINGwood?

Sorry for being a late entrant into this thread, but just found it searching for something else. 5 of my 11 cues were made by Jerry, including two conversions. The others include a Mottey and a Scruggs, so I have some great-hitting cues to compare his to. My ivory-joint Rauenzahn is very comparable in hit to an ivory-jointed Mottey, but I prefer my phenolic joint Mottey to either. I just purchased a phenolic-joint Rauenzahn, so we'll see how it hits. As far as workmanship, I've gotten nothing but favorable comments about the Rauenzahn cues from friends who have seen them.

Jerry does great work at a very fair price, and he is friendly, a real pleasure to talk pool with, and bends over backward to give you great service. I discovered his work when I saw an interesting cue of his on ebay and googled until I found his web-site - I was impressed with his artistic eye, and when I won the cue on ebay, I was also impressed with his work, which is why I do not hesitate to pick them up on ebay. Also, they are very undervalued and Jerry does not make many cues anymore. I've sent two cues to Jerry for conversions, and while I consider myself creative, he had his own ideas and they were better than mine. I have no reason to give Jerry a plug here, other than the fact that I'm pleased with what I've experienced.

I'll say the same for Paul Mottey - I purchased a Mottey from a friend and sent it to Paul for refinishing, and I got expert work with a reasonable turnaround, at a very fair price. His work was absolutely perfect.

I'm one of the lucky ones who hasn't had a bad cue-maker experience yet. I also know that there are many great cue-makers out there, and when you find a good one, you will probably stick with him and probably miss out on some good experiences that others find, but we can't afford to try them all.

Rauenzahn.....

Double ditto on Rauenzahns.....some people are just hard to please all the time. I've hit a bunch of good cues and a bunch of great cues and, as far as SS 5/16 x 14 cues go, a Rauenzahn is as good as any.

His point work is fabulous.
