Re-Finish.....?

Hello All,
I was just curious.......how much do most folks charge for a refinish?
The finish on a cue I just received is not great. It feels almost like a satin finish, but it's not.....it's just a cheap grade of finish and it's just plain bad.
So, I was just looking to find out what to expect $$$-wise as I have never had a cue refinished.
If it helps to know, it is a sneaky pete with a cocobolo joint.

On a side note....this cue also has a slight wobble in the middle of the butt and the local cue repair guy, who used to be a custom cuemaker but doesn't make cues anymore, he said that if someone WOULD work on it, which most would NOT, the whole butt would need to be turned and "thinned" to get the roll out of it. Does that sound about right, and if so.....how much would that be?
Doing either of these repairs may just be cost prohibitive as I have $260 in the cue already and I may just want to cut my losses.

I am not bashing anyones workmanship that is here.....it's an Eason cue.
I've been waiting for this for a while, long before all the drama, and this cue just doesn't measure up to a reasonable standard and I'm wondering if it's worth doing anything with.

Please, any replies would be helpful.

For a refinish on a Sneaky Pete you can expect to pay anywhere from 100.00 to 200,00 if you want a half way decent finish. The reason that your finish is not up to your standards is because most who want this type of cue don't expect to pay much and with this, as all else, you get what you pay for.

As far as the roll, you can either live with it or buy a new cue. There is little that can be done to correct other than turn down and that's going to put the points all out of whack and the cue could possibly move again and together with the re-finish it will cost much more than a new cue.

i charge $150 for a refinish,but it sounds like this cue may need more work.i,like most guys would probably have to see it to quote a price.that is probably why you aren't getting too many responses.

if the roll is minor like you say then a simple refinsh would be all you need unless you want it straight,then like you said it would need to be turned down if it is big enough to cut the warp out.

Problem is a lot of cuemakers don't really like working on sub-standard cues....sometimes you don't know what you're getting into with what should be the simplest of repairs. You end up having to do more work, and obviously spend more time, getting something that's sub-standard back up to a reasonable standard of correctness. And then it's tough coming back to the customer to explain to them that they owe you more money. That's one reason why a lot of the CMs just don't like working on cheap imports and this kind of stuff. Not bashing here, just giving you a little info....albeit unvarnished (no pun intended).
 
I would say sell it to someone for as much as you can and buy a SneakiestPete from poolfool. Ask for a metal 3/8-10 w/ stock shaft and Kamui tip, and it will cost you 125 I think. He may charge you a couple bucks extra for the metal 3/8-10 because he normally uses G-10, but it won't be much. Then you will have a real nice true sneaky in your posession.

First off let me say, Thank You to all that replied. I was beginning to think I had offended someone, somehow, in my original post and folks didn't want to answer fearing that they might upset someone also.

My fears have been confirmed. It would cost too much to fix this.
It's a shame because the cue is a Schmelke blank that is coco into bem and is a stunning piece of wood. I've said my peace about Jeff Eason and don't need to anymore, but he is new at this and just doesn't have an eye for the craft, it seems.
It's also a shame because the Eason cue I bought off of ebay from DaFish (Azer name) was straight and also a stunning piece of coco, but according to Jeff, it was lost in the mail.....thus a new cue was made by Eason.

The butt of the cue is a little thick and could possibly be turned, but being as though I am just an enthusiast(sp?) and not a cuemaker, it's impossible for me to tell is there is enough to get the warp out.

It just sucks because the auction price was $160 and then I sent Jeff $100 for a "fix" and an extra shaft....so I'm out of pocket $260. That kind of $$ could have been used to get me 2/3 of the way into a Sly SP.

Oh well,......any suggestions what I should do with it? I have a couple other cues to play with. It wasn't my 1st and only, just an extra that was going to be a pretty piece of coco.

So, any ideas?

Firewood?
Toy for masonh to hone his craft?
