Re-Laminate Valley Bar Box?

I have the opportunity to get a 7ft VBB for cheap. Problem is all the formica has been stripped off it. Included in the deal is new formica is this a viable standard procedure, or something to be avoided? I believe a couple of the trim peices are missing as well. I have seen threads here where the slate has been extended, pockets tightened, Ridgeback rails, ect. I have even seen the words Valley and Diamond in the same sentence. I know the parts for these boxes are plentiful, are they expensive? Are these more user freindly for a player that likes/ has to do his own work? Thanks to those who have taken the time to read this, extra thanks to those that may choose to chime in. The fact that the mecanics that post here have other things to do, but still find time to is not lost on me. Thanks Again Don

grab youself a formica knife a trim router and contact adhesive with a heat gun and go to work. It will take some time, but they already did the hard part of stripping the old off if it is going to be used for home and you have the time for labor and get it cheap enough it will be worth it and last you a long time. It all depends on what you want. Thanks, Ron

I should have asked earlier, what are the more serious problems with these table that would be deal breakers. The trim alone is pretty costly, and I may be wrong, but seems a trim kit is just rail bolt covers not, rack, ball return amd coin op trim.

Formica

Do it... I'm doing a gold crown pretty easy.. Formica and wilsoart have scratch resistant coatings on some of there laminates. It's the sights that are not fun.. What i have concluded is 7/16 hold with a corian plug easy to sand to perfection.. Formica is cheap 54.00 a sheet. Good luck.

According to the seller the laminate included is correct for the table, bought at a billiard supply place. I don't know what they call it, but if it is it's pretty durable. I have seen numerous cues, long necks (lot of them didn't break) broken over rails, cigarettes burnt down, didn't even leave a mark. Have seen one end of table picked up about 6 inchs and dropped cause a ball had hung up, again no visable ill effects. Am I correct in assuming the missing rail bolt trim does not prevent play?
