I have 760 on my table and I am moving it to replace the carpet. I would like to re-use it. Is there any determining factors to whether this is a good idea or not. It is in fairly good shape, but about 9 years old.

If re-using it, do you try to pull the staples out with the cloth on or do you just tear it off the staples. I have been trying to pull them out unsuccessfully and wind up tearing through the cloth anyway. Any suggestinns/input would be appreciated.

Remove all the staples if you intend to reuse the cloth.
Use an awl or a thin flat screwdriver to ease them out and then pliers or needlenose to remove them.

Assuming any excess cloth was trimmed on the last install you'll have a difficult time trying to restaple the cloth back on.
If this is the case you can reinstall by glueing the cloth to the vertical slate edge.

If the cloth is in good condition there's no harm in reusing it but being 9 years old you might consider replacing it
since you'll have the table at least partially disassembled.

You must remove the staples CAREFULLY if you wish to reapplied the bed cloth. You might try pulling the staples out with a small flat head screwdriver and a pair of pliers. The Ideal tool for this operation is a Berry staple remover. You'll still need a pair of pliers for the ones that pop out on one side of the staple only. I'm sure DARTMAN sells them.

It can be tedious work, if the staples are long and close together, but will save you a few hundred bucks for a new piece of cloth.

I would strongly recommend that you consider a professional recovery and installation after your carpet is installed, as this would be the perfect time to do so, possibly saving you some of the cost of a new cloth...:D

Thanks

for your responses, and advice. Spent hours yesterday on staples...ugh..
still 4' to go. Tough to get them out without ripping the cloth, no matter the tool.

The table had played quite on the slow side, and given 760's rep. it should be the opposite, so I think that it has some extra stretch in it for a new staple job. I agree that it's good to have a pro do the job. I've just had such bad experience with "professional" jobs in the past that it is a bit
worriesome to ask another, and since I'm looking to cut costs this time figured it is a good chance to see how things work on a good setup. Then at least I'm not naive when it comes to checking out someones work in the future.

I don't know, I'm undecided.... but I do know that I want it done right this time.... and if I hire it out I won't accept the hatchet jobs I've gotten in the past.

RKC where are you when we need you???
