Reaction to pros in local tournaments?

This refers to 70% of the field...

LOL... a lobster is a player that can barely hold a cue in their claws and is unlikey to beat any good player. It's the look when the Pro players get when they walk into a room holding a weekly or monthly tournament and see the field. Like any good gambler, they spot the players that 'might' give them trouble and then like a starving hungry player, they lump and then throw the remaining 'lobsters' into the pot for a veritable seafood feast.... imo

Doug

*Lobster: noun; a player there to feed the hungry big fish, with little chance of getting anywhere NEAR the money.

Let's face it...most of us have played this role at some point in our life.

I can tell where I stand the moment that I walk into a room and spot a huge vat of drawn butter and BIBS for everyone....... but me. :)

Is there room in this country for an all ameture tour and would you come if I started one. Someone needs to start making a list of pros that wouldn't be allowed because that will take some time. plus we will need to make a distinction between A player and AA player then pro. If we can get enough input I will look for location and if we think enough players will come I would be happy to do something.

I would love the shot at playing a top pro. Quite honestly, I would need 9 games in a race to 10 to have any real chance, but I would still love the shot. Not to mention the fact that watching them play you can be good for your game. These tournaments aren't that expensive, so I would not have any problem with it. I might not want to have mu butt kicked all the time, so it may not be something I would want to see happen at every tournament.

Contact ACS John Lewis I'm SURE can clear the air.

explain that please. Island Drive

Just Google American Cue Sports, John Lewis is the ex. director and has also been on the WPBA board for YEARS. Also was in charge of the BCA leagues for over 14years in Iowa and CO.

IMHO there needs to be an established Pro Tour first in this country.

What would be the significanceof AAA baseball if there was no Major League?

I for one am all for pros playing in "Open" or Handicapped tournaments. I had the opportunity to play Rodolfo Luat at a tournament in Grayslake, IL. There was one whiner that did withdraw from the tournament. I drew Rodolfo as my first match. I am a "B" player in the Wisconsin BCA league in Milwaukee. Granted, I am a strong "B" player. I really only play on barboxes but welcomed the opportunity to play a freaking World Champion for the mere $30 or $40 it cost me to enter!!!! I got beat 9 to 1 but I had chances to win on several occasions apart from the one rack I ran. I even got ball-in-hand more than I gave him ball-in-hand. I was a wreck due to the excitement and nervousness to play someone of this caliber. Not to mention of course that I maybe play on a 9-footer like a half a dozen times a year. I will be able to talk about that experience forever. I for one love to play and I play players all the time WITHOUT a spot just to see how I stand up to them even knowing that I am probably going to lose. I do not gamble outside of my means however and I love to play in tournaments. I mean for the vast majority of players in the tournaments...we are AMATEURS. How many of the players honestly play because they are banking on the monetary payout? I play to BEAT whoever I am playing. I want to be the best that I can be regardless of whether or not I am winning money. I will play you just as hard. I will tell you however, that I will play "safe-to-death" when playing for money or in tournaments. I do not typically play safe in a friendly match...I practice playing very aggressive and try to get out on every turn.
I think you have the correct attitude. Everyone should be ecstatic being able to play a world champion for so little money. Back in the 80's I played every week at the Chicago Billiard Cafe's wednesday night 9ball tourney.
Race to four loser breaks $20 entry fee. We would get full fields of 32 and when Efren started playing in them the owner opened it up to 48 players.
Names like Efren Reyes, Bill Incardona, Raphael Martinez, Boston Shorty, Glenn "Piggyback" Rogers Freddy the Beard, and a ton of talented players . Those were great times. Philw

This is one of the issues we have with pool, there are alot of cheap bastards that play pool.

If Tiger Woods was to show up at a local course for a small tournament, guys would be killing each other to sign up.

Heck, if you had Tiger showing up for local pool tourneys golfers would be killing each other to sign up :D ;) :p

I play weekly alternate break tournaments. Double elimination until last 8. It's either race to 3 8ball or race to 4 9ball. Tables are very quick tough 9ft. Anyone who wins must give up a game next week, but in such a way that he starts at -1. Anyone is welcome.

Last week I won 3-0 in 8ball tournament by posting Accu-stats 1.000 in the final. 3 perfect runouts, no missed balls or positions. Even weaker players than me are capable of 1.000 Accu-stats performance in such a short race, and I'm far from a world beater, B- at best. I wasn't even the best player in the field...top 4 maybe. I think everyone would be vulnerable in such a format. I only wish we had top pro's playing here.

What happens if you win the next week, two game spot?

There's a easy way to deal with the pros.........don't miss.

If you lose, does it really matter who too? Use the experince to improve your game.

Learning the game

I love it when Pro level players show up to play in an open tournament.

I figure it like this...if i ain't got the heart to put my game up against them, maybe I should find another sport to put my time into.

Don't get me wrong. I am realistic in the fact that on most days, they are going to get me. But, there are other days where it's anybody's game.

I have yet to fail to learn something just watching them play and being in the thick of it kind of makes some of the greatness of those guys a little bit of mine; just because I had the heart to play against them.

There's an old quote and a John Wayne Bobbit joke that comes to mind when I think about this.

Quote: "Some days you're the windshield and some days you're the bug"

Joke: Old couple driving behind Lorrena Bobbit the night she slashed ole John and threw his manhood out on the highway. As luck would have it, his manhood hits the windshield of their car. Shocked , the Old man looks at wife and says "Ethel, did you just see the freaking bug that hit the windshield"? Ethel responds, "The bug wasn't sh**!! But, did you see the Balls on that SOB"!!!???

I may get squashed like an old bug, but when I leave they will at least know I had the balls to play 'em.

Donate?? For the lessons I get...it's the best money I ever spend.

I'll take you up on that soon, I finally got my boat finished after 3 weeks of solid work. I have to go shrimping for the rest of this week but if I can get a day off next week PM me your info and I'll give you a call. Shane invited me to the office club for a 3-ball tournament if you're interested too...

No, still one game spot. But, if we had real pro's capable of winning nearly everytime, we'd need to adjust I guess...:p
