Mark,

Since you've been out of pool for so long, what drills are you using to get back in stroke? What have you found to be the most difficult to remember (i.e. proper throw, speed control etc.) and why?

I appreciate any info.

i dont use drills never have. havent forgot anything, i just throw out 11 balls and try to run out. if i have trouble making a ball i might shoot it till i make it a few times but thats it

Maybe I worded my question wrong.

What are you having the most trouble with in making your comeback to pool?

Alot of us have to take extended breaks and it would be nice to hear what a pro does to get back in stroke.

BTW, why "11 balls"?

11 balls because 9 balls can be to easy . with 11 a little tougher and more traffic to try to get around for shape. then 9 ball seems easier. the trouble im having now is finding a good cue . so im not sure how im playing now or what troubles i have till i find a cue that hits well. im going to see a young man today and if the shon hits good i will buy for 300 . good deal i think it has points and two shafts. he said he bought it some time ago for 500 and would let it go for 300 or some lessons and some cash . so we shall see. the shots dont seem hard or shape, english. cue ball control only takes a little while. i guess i will see if i can get back in form. only time will tell if i played every day for a couple of months straight i should get close i think. :D

I guess this blows the old adage all to hell and back..."A real player can play with anything...just give him time to get used to any stick". Or, "A real player can play with a broomstick".

I never believed it...that's why Barry Bonds gets his bats specially hand made to certain specs and every PGA Tour player has every club fine tuned to his desires.

Hi,

The hardest thing I found after such a long lay off was getting in SHAPE.

Joe R.

Joe,

I started playing again about a year ago also. Shape was also my problem, mainly speed control. I'd say I'm back about 90% now, I ran 54 on Wednesday.

I got to play Jim Rempe in '91 or '92 in Germany. For some reason he was practicing 8 ball, and you could've renamed me "rack boy". He ran rack after rack after rack. It was one of the most amazing displays I've ever seen. I swear in ten rack I had exactly one shot (and that was after the break). He's an awesome guy, count your blessings he's your instructor.
