MI means Mika Immonen and TH means Thorsten Hohmann in this post.
1. MI breaks them well, leaving easy layout, and gets out for 1 - 0.
2. TH breaks makes ball, but leaves awkward layout. Has to carom in the six off of the two with the bridge on its side and comes with it to set up a runout for 1 - 1.
3. MI breaks them well, but is faced with tough diagonal cut of the two in the corner and undercuts it badly, TH clears to take a 2 - 1 lead.
4. TH breaks them well and banks the one and gets good shape on the two with draw, a fantastic shot. Misses shape on three and has to play safe, which he does only passably, giving MI a reasonable chance to hook back on the kick. MI overhits the speed on the kick, selling out the object ball and the rack. TH 3 MI 1
5. MI break them well, but ends up tough on the one and, wisely, in my opinion, opts for a safe, which he plays well. Hohmann sells out on the kick and MI clears. TH 3 MI 2.
6. TH breaks them well but has to push, and leaves Mika a long cut on the one up the long rail with little chance to get to the two without three rail shape. I honestly though MI would give it back, but he slammed it in but couldn't get past the obstructing four ball, running into it and scratching into the side. More a mistake than a bad roll, in my view. Sold out. TH 4 Mi 2.
7. MI breaks them well, but gets a little funny on the three. comes with it and runs out. TH 4 MI 3.
8. TH breaks them well but has to shoot a tricky one-six combo and nails it to set up a clearance. TH 5 MI 3.
9. Carbon copy of MI break in rack five, and doesn't play the safe as well as he might, leaving TH a rail first chance on the one, which he comes with most impresively, but follows it with a poor safety on the two. MI response not much better, leaving a carom chance, but TH kmisses it. MI makes nice two ball and appears headed for a runout when he plays poorly onto the five and can't come up with the shot, selling out. TH 6 MI 3.
10. Nice break by TH and plays fine shot to get from the one to the two. Hits it very poorly and misses it, leaving MI a bank only a one pocket player could love, but MI rose to the occasion. Moments later, though, MI plays poorly onto the four and has to play safe. Leaves TH a long but very makeable shot, and Th makes it and runs out to end the set.
So it's Hohmann and Archer tomorrow in the final, and if Hohmann plays like this, Johnny better bring his best game.
OK, I'm off to the women's semi between Corr and Laurance. Bye for now.
