Reccomendation for mechanic's how-to book

We own a small room and have used several local mechanics and are not real happy with any of them. They all have their strengths, but in general are in too much of a hurry. I am quite fussy about how the tables play and have had some success in doing my own work. Does anyone know of a good book that will show the best way to do all the work, i.e. proper cloth stretching, installing rail rubber, levelling, etc. I think I would do well doing my own work with a little help and I know I would be more careful. Thanks!!

I'm not a table mechanic, but I noticed in the Mueller catalog that they sell a pool table step-by-step installation and recovery DVD. In the 2006 catalog it's on page 110 and is item #RV23. Probably on their web site also.

I have this DVD I would make you a copy for $10 shipped. I have to say it's ok for minor work, recovering and seam sealing ( they use the bees wax method) I would wait untill Glen comes out with his DVD series before I spent a lot. $50 is over priced for Muellers DVD

I think I'll wait. Seems like Brunswick would have the definitive work, I think they actually trained mechanics at one time.

Brunswick...has billiards technicians????...LOL Could have fooled me...LOL and all this time I thought all Brunswick did was send their pool tables out to the locations and someone else set up the tables...LOL...Brunswick DON'T set up or recover pool tables...billiards technicians do...and Brunswick doesn't have ANY technicians...at all.

A Mechanic with Brunswick certs came to work at a shop I work for years ago. This guys was horrible. He didn't use levels, he had a long straight bar and rolled a ball on the table. He was the joke of the shop along with his certs.

Brunswick certifications. or anybodies for that matter don't mean squat.

As for Brunsick not having techs, that is true but a gentlemen by the name of Al Conte does thier seminars and is, or was, what he termed a VIP installer for brunswick. I was under the impression that he installed for some tournaments and special clients.

Brunswick is a distributer and lets local shops do the work of install. I have attended the brunswick training. If I already didn't know how to do tables before I got their, I would not have been able to when I left. I learned a couple of good tips. This has all been covered before and the lack of formal training information or institutions is the reason we have so many hacks.

just my two cents

The best billiards technicians I know of, don't have any kind of certification...of any kind. What they have that you can't get with a certification...is expertice...from learning to care about the work that they do, therefor they don't need any kind of certification what-so-ever...because being certified don't make you a good billiards technician, as well as not being certified...does not make you a bad billiards technician. I have yet to see a certified billiards technician that can hang with me when it comes to working on pool tables...of any kind, and I'm NOT certified in any way shape or form, and don't care, as I know what I know...from self learning!
