Recommend Mosconi cup hotels

Am hoping someone who has been to a previously held Mosconi Cup at the Alley pally can give me some insight on the experience especially any suggestions on how to get to the event if you not lucky enough to get a room at the hotel that’s on the same property.

There is no hotel close to the Alexandra Palace. There are places to stay down the hill by Wood Green tube stop (east of AP). I have had good luck finding them with booking.com. There may also be hotels west of AP.

However.... The Wood Green stop is on the Piccadilly line so I have stayed at hotels near other stops on that line. Heathrow Airport is also on the Piccadilly line. The Holborn and Russell Square stops are near the British Museum and other touristy places and not far from the Hurricane Room if you want to play some pool while you are there. In that area, and depending on your budget... Club Quarters Hotel Covent Garden and Thistle, Bloomsbury Park are good.

If you get an Oyster Card using the tube and the buses is very easy. Just put some money in it and tap it on the turnstile to enter (and leave for the tube). There is a bus from near the Wood Green station to Alexandra Palace if you are not into half-hour hikes uphill. Google Maps shows the routes.

Thank you.

Good summation by Bob here. Staying at a hotel along the Piccadilly Line is well advised. As well as Wood Green, which is closest to Alexandra Palace, both Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square are on the Piccadilly Line, so if you want to stay in "town" you have lots of options. For example, I have stayed at the Victory House Leicester Square Hotel and I had a good experience. It ran about $300 per night. The room was modest, but simple access to the best things in London made it worth it.

If you're there for the Mosconi and experiencing London isn't important to you, stay near Wood Green.

For the tubes you can tap with any card, I usually use my amex, doesn't need to be an oyster card.
That's amazingly convenient. I assume it has to be a chip card. Buses, too?

A remaining advantage I see for a tourist is that losing the Oyster card -- in and out of your pocket frequently -- is not the same disaster as losing your Amex.

You don't need a card at all - you can pay w/your phone or watch.
(Sorry not your Rolex Bob, need Apple/Google pay.)
