I know someone that contacted several cuemakers that are “well-known” for their conversions. The intent was to have the cuemaker convert a vintage house cue into a custom playing cue. Each cuemaker stated that they wouldn’t accept new custom cue orders. It also seems that most, if not all, of those cuemakers indicated their updated preference for full/complete cue builds. This likely means that future vintage house cue conversions, from those cuemakers, won’t occur for the average customer.
The conversion needs to have a joint with a: flat face, radial pin, and collars. That type of joint may eliminate some cuemakers. Obviously, the person wants a high quality conversion from a well-known and highly regarded cuemaker. Given the current preference of these cumakers, it seems a bit of prognostication has to be applied here.
The question is:
Factoring in the supplied info, which up-and-coming or lesser known cuemakers, that you predict will have a high likelihood of becoming well known names (or are currently established and well-known, if they’re currently accepting and building conversions), would you recommend to someone looking to have a high quality conversion completed in the near future?
