Just out of curiosity -- and not to knock the event, because no matter what it should be a good one -- have you heard or seen somewhere that these guys are actually signed up? Because I can guarantee you Bruce isn't playing.

No I have not. I saw the names in the other post and called MI_Billiards (Steve) to try to confirm the names myself. He could not be certain -- said they were the usual suspects at this event, which is why the word "expected" was used. Thanks for that Lou!

If anyone else can add or subtract names that would be appreciated.

Lou, I talked to John Lavin yesterday and I don't think is anyone signed up yet.

cmbwsu was reposting names that Dennis posted in the other thread that he would expect to be in the field.

Lou: I was just guessing based on seeing him at past events. I sit corrected.
Are you coming up?

Well, like I said I am not trying to knock the event, it's just that one thing I despise is folks saying that so and so, and this guy and that guy are going to play, or that a whole bunch of players are signed up to play in an event, and you get there and you're like the second guy on the list.

A few years back I actually flew 2000 miles to play in a 1pocket tournament that, according to the owner on the phone had, "64 (signed up), but there'lll probably be more." When I got there, I was, literally, number two on the list. At least they managed to get to 32.

As far as the "paid entries" in the tournament, I have some out of town (not the Chicago area) pre-paid to guarantee their spots before they drive into Chicago. As far as my local "cream puffs" (Ike, Sergio etc...) generally wait until the last moment to officially part with the "U.S. Grant" ($50). You see most "pool players" utilize the the time honored "JIT" (just in time) inventory control system. That is a system where you find a "supplier" who can deliver goods just prior to your actually needing them. This way you are not tying up "cash" (& warehouse space), keeping an inventory you will not need til later. That entry fee represents "working capital". You see my "daisy mae's" are not "lazy or cheap", they are just exploring advanced concepts in "financial resource utilization". As always in the unlikely event that their cash reserves have been depleted come "sign-up" time (made a bad game Friday night the 2nd of September), "emergency funding" is available through the "IMF" (me) to avoid a "global financial meltdown". So I'm not particularly worried about the "paid entries" so far. The Red Shoes Billiards One Pocket Tournament as always is backed by the "Full Faith and Credit" of the "IMF" (me), and I still have a AAA Rating.

What about Piggy and Larry Nevel? Is Marco in town? Have your heard from the Ohio contingent? Are you playing?

Lou Figueroa
inquiring minds
and all that

Glen "Piggy Banks" Rogers has not formally committed yet. He being a "Hall of Fame" member, spends a lot of time at the Hall of Fame. As for "Marco Marquez", I think he is in Mexico. Larry Nevel was somewhere in the SE (NC or SC somewhere like that). Locally, Riley "Jett" Johnson is playing (health permitting of course). I have not heard from the Ohio contingent. I did get a call from Detroit, saying he represented 5 players that are coming to the Tournament (I'm not sure if that included Ronnie W. or not). Tommy Karobotsas said he might play if he gets in from that Charlie Williams 14.1 thing on the east coast (his plane lands late on the 2nd). I have a couple of WI players. Nothing heard though from IA, KY, or IN (yet). I do have 5 or 6 of my local "Red Shoes Unknowns" playing (you know..."unknowns"... the ones that might beat the "magazine stars" in a short race, so I can listen to "who the **** was that guy, I've been playing 40 years and never seen him before"). Of course Ike Runnels and Sergio Perez will be playing. Possibly John Zaksas (depending on his and more importantly MY mood). My "Padawan" (Erik Hincks BEST CHILD PLAYER IN CHICAGO...he just turned 18) will be playing. As far as the rest of the field, I have asked the "Cook County House of Corrections" (located at 26th and California Ave.) to have an early bail call that day so the guys can make the "players meeting".

RJ...As far as accepting "paypal", not yet. A few other guys have asked that too. So it is on the "agenda" of things to do (and get set up). To keep from driving the 60 miles, there is still time to send a "check" in some form. It can be a "personal check" (or money order if you like). Just make sure you have ATTN: John Lavin on the envelop. Some people have been surprised that I take personal checks for entry fees. Well, I'm not too good of a pool player but I have heard that I'm a great "debt collector". At any rate, the "paypal" thing will get done. Just not in time for this tournament. If you can, include a phone number with the check and I'll call you to let you know "it arrived". If for some reason the "check" thing is no good for you, call me either Sunday (8/28) or Monday (8/29) night (after 6 PM) at the pool room and we will figure something out. See you on September 3rd. John Lavin (708-388-3700)

hmmm

RJ if you paypal to me at gwtlaw@aol.com, I will get the money to John. Talk to John on Sunday. I'm sure he'll be ok with it.

Hey, I appreciate that. It's a donation, but every tournament needs a few donors !! PLus, I need to exact my revenge on Ike....Don't rightly know how the hell that is gonna happen, except maybe a little prayer to the pool Gods.... Thanks again for your help...... RJ

I just sent you $52 to cover the paypal fee,,, and the first beer is on me..... thanks,RJ
