Redwood Burl

I remember seeing a cue made from redwood burl a few years ago and really loving the color and grain. Have any of you used this wood or have any thoughts on it's suitability for cues? Assuming that it would need to be cored for stability.

Jim Lee (J&D cues) has some and has used it several times. He sent me a nice piece and it was easy to work with and sable. He cored it with 3/4" maple and I would do the same if I used it again.
I saw a cue a while back that the builder used black stain on the Redwood burl and the finished results were beautiful. The stain didn't soak into the burl and left a black and red on fire look. I think it was a Mike Bender cue.
