Refinishing old cue

What are your ideas on getting an old, production cue with little value refinished? its not a valuable cue but has sentamental value. its pretty beat up but just wanted to clean it up enough to give it to someone.

the cue is a snooker cue from the 60s given to me by my uncle when i was a kid. it has lots of scratches, slight warp, and one joint collar seems misaligned. just wanted to give it to his grandson as he recently took up the game.

Well, a pic or 2 would help, first, to judge the condition. then, IMO, it comes down to how much are you willing to spend to pass down a sentimental item? It isn't cheap to do the refinish, rewrap, reface, etc. but depending on the person that it would be passed to, It's your call to decide, would they appreciate the 'family' value? If so,then it's worth it, but if they will treat it as just an object, and leave it in a car for weeks, bang it when they miss a shot, etc. then My opinion, it would be better to either keep it yourself, or give it 'as is', and let it go.
There are some great guys on here that do great restoration work, Ratcues, KJ, Manwon, BarenbruggeCues, Rhn, to name just a few that would do a great job, have great integrety, and won't hose you on the price. Good luck and hope this helped.

I still have a clock that my Grandfather made for me 12 years ago. It hasnt worked in years. I have been asked quite a few times why don't I throw it out. Then I tell them where it come from and they understand. I have always told everyone of my customers that I do work for. You cant put a price on sentimental value. If it was me, I would refinish it and pass it done to his grandson. You never know that cue could be around your family for ever. I know that my son is getting my clock when you buys his first house. There is a lot of us cue builders that can do a very good job on your cue. There is a few of us that realizes the value of you cue! Good luck with your cue. If you can't find someone to do it feel free to give me a call and send some pictures. I will treat you very right.
