At our WI state pool tournament a ref made a bad call, and both teams agree'd that it was a good hit. But we played it as called by the ref.

We heard there was a few bad calls by these refs that weekend. What can we do?

Next time don't ask these referees to get involved. What is the process in your tournament to challenge a referee's decision?

Ha, I think that was against my team.
I am curious, I took it on the chin when it was the view of both teams a good hit.
Honestly, both the fat young guy sucked and so did the older fat bald ref.
We would be better off calling a spectator and explaining the rule and have them watch it.
:bash: :bash: :bash:

I believe you have to pay a fee($100??) to protest. Then its reviewed by a board of directors. After that, they go drink on your dime and then tell you your shit outa luck.......:thud:

AND that's all folks! Gotta luvit!

I've been in a couple situations where refs make bad calls. After they leave i make the right call if the bad call was in my favor. Unlike most people in pool i don't want/have to win by cheating.

My favorite story is this about a bad ref:

My wife is playing, ref watching hit.
She shoots the 11 ball. Clearly a good hit, ref says bad hit.
She says, Sir, how is that a bad hit?
He says you hit the 11 first.
She says, yes i am stripes.
He looks back at the table and yells, I MEAN YOU HIT THE 2 and stomps off.

Of course the other lady took ball in hand. Thankfully my wife's team still won the match.

Even though this was a bad call by the ref I have never felt pissed at the other team.
I figure it this way, I play by the rules and if the ref calls good or bad I deal with those calls.

I my game I managed not get a very good leave anyway so I just figured I would let it go. It also helps that it was not a hill-hill match/game.

I think when I am the one not shooting and a ref is called I should just turn my back and let the ref call it so I have no good/bad feeling about it all. Then I can let the shooter and ref discuss it.

That does not help when you are the shooter.

I am also going to talk my my league director and see if something else can be done about these two refs. They were bad.

We all know they will not get the calls 100% right but how about 90% to 95% of the time? I don't think that is unrealistic.

That's insane.

We were playing a team at the BCA nationals a few years back.

My teammate calls a ref for a close double hit situation.
The other player clearly double hits the cue ball.
The ref says "Good Hit."
Other player says "What!?"
Ref "Good Hit."
Other player then touches the cue ball again with his tip again, "How about now? Is THAT a foul? You can leave now." He then picks up the cue ball and hands it to my teammate.

We agreed to call our own fouls for the rest of that match.
:)

Lmao...thank goodness some people do the right thing...this guy did it with flair!

That's a proper response.

Sometimes you get stuck with a ref, who just can't make the proper calls. Maybe they went thru the ref training, and passed their test, but just simply have no understanding of real pool. After finding out you have no option on getting a good ref to make calls, either, 1} make an agreement to call a fairly good player, that both teams can agree on, or 2} if you know there's an honest player on the other team who can make the call, let them do it,,,, Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good ref's too. But like in everything else in life, some people are better at things than others.
